Joy

Sometimes the best thing we can do to help ourselves is just find something that brings us joy.

What if you were out shopping one average day, and suddenly an opera broke out?

Opera Company of Philadelphia "Flash Brindisi" at Reading Terminal Market (April 24, 2010)

How can you not be smiling after watching that? It's pure joy, free and unexpected and delightful.

Thank you, Opera Company of Philadelphia.

Bravo!

What have you done lately that has brought you joy?

How can you bring joy to someone else?

DeAnna Julie Dodson has always been an avid reader and a lover of storytelling, whether on the page, the screen or the stage. This, along with her keen interest in history and her Christian faith, shows in her tales of love, forgiveness and triumph over adversity. She is the author of In Honor Bound, By Love Redeemed and To Grace Surrendered, a trilogy of medieval romances, and Letters in the Attic, a contemporary mystery. A fifth-generation Texan, she makes her home north of Dallas with four spoiled cats.

  3. it's cool to see things like that. i'm originally from Denver and i like to swing dance (unfortunately, hubby doesn't) so a friend sent me a link for a similar incident (involving dancing - not singing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDv7NhMjhg4

as for how to bring joy to someone else: right now my two year old gets pretty happy when momma agrees to "hold you me"

if only such simple things could always keep us happy.

  4. That is so cool! Our rec. district organized a Halloween flash mob to "Thriller" on the courthouse lawn during their downtown kids' trick-or-treat event. It was a hoot.

My happy this week (besides grandbaby playing the piano in his walker yesterday) was a RAOK package from my elementary school best friend's mom. Yes, I'm slow, had to ask what RAOK means (Random Act of Kindness). Just outta the blue, and it makes me want to do one for someone else!

  6. How fun!

My husband and I were just talking about joy. Finding more of it, sharing it, seeking the Lord's joy. Perfect timing!

    Thanks, DeAnna.

We could all use more. :)

  8. I agree, we could all use some extra joy in our lives.

Talking to and/or spending time with my son brings me joy.

I like the ROAK. I think we could all try to seek out more ways to bring joy to those around us. I doesn't have to be someone you know. It can be anyone from that grouchy person in the line at the store to the little kid selling fundraiser wrapping paper. And it doesn't have to be big. Sometimes just a smile or opening a door will bless someone.

I need to practice more of this.

  9. Heard of flash mobs, have 'em over here but I have never actually seen one. Though there was a lone(ly) bagpiper playing in the Middle my nearest town once, in full regalia if I recall.

Oh, and no I'm nowhere near Scotland, nearer France.
