Austen in Austin Volume I Party and a Giveaway!!!

At last... It's here! Our baby! We're celebrating with a party and a Prize Package Giveaway!

(Want some musical accompaniment? Click here, press play, leave the tab open, and hop back here. It's a CELEBRATION and we're gettin' down!!!)

What started as an email 'conversation' among the Inkwell authors four or five years ago has come to fruition. We chatted about an anthology of novellas to include our published and 'pre-published' selves. As ideas were tossed and tossed out, the idea of Austen-inspired stories came along, and thankfully Anita expressed her concerns--she was more comfortable writing western or prairie settings. It wasn't long before we'd jumped on the idea of mixing the two....

    Austen in Austin was born.

Eight of us wanted to be involved. Austen aficionados would know there are not eight published Austen novels to work with. Never fear. We made it work.

The journey from initial idea to this release party took more twists and turns that we care to recall.
Frankly,we wondered if it would ever be published. But timing is a big part of the process, and Austen in Austin's time had come, thanks to WhiteFire Publishing.

Volume I releases this Friday, January 15, with the second Volume to release later this year!

Here's the scoop on the book:

Discover four heroines in historical Austin, TX, as they find love--Jane Austen style. Volume 1 includes:

If I Loved You Less by Gina Welborn, based on Emma
A prideful matchmaker examines her own heart when her protégé falls for the wrong suitor.

Romantic Refinements by Anita Mae Draper, based on Sense and Sensibility
A misguided academy graduate spends the summer falling in love . . . twice.

One Word from You by Susanne Dietze, based on Pride and Prejudice
A down-on-her-luck journalist finds the story of her dreams, but her prejudice may cost her true love . . . and her career.

Alarmingly Charming by Debra E. Marvin, based on Northanger Abbey
A timid gothic dime-novel enthusiast tries to solve the mystery of a haunted cemetery and, even more shocking, why two equally charming suitors compete for her attentions.

So come celebrate with us! Enjoy some Texas treats served by the heroes of the novellas. And don't forget to enter the Rafflecopter entry below for the chance to win the Austen in Austin Prize Package!

Why, it's Noah Whitley of If I Loved You Less, inspired by Emma's Mr. Knightley!

Welcome to the party! May I take your coats?
What a lovely cloak! All our heroines own similar garb.
Oh, Brandon Tabor is here, too! He may look like Sam Elliot, but he's really Romantic Refinement's Texas twist on Colonel Brandon from Sense and Sensibility.

Sam Elliott as the former Texas Ranger Brandon Tabor, hero of Novella 2 Romantic Refinements.:
Howdy. Would you care for a sweet tea?

How refreshing!
Love the mason jars!

Will Delacourt from One Word From You is inspired by Pride and Prejudice's Mr. Darcy (and looks a lot like Henry Cavill).

Will Delacourt:
A spot of luncheon, ladies?
Oh my, what's that on the tray he's carrying? Looks like Texas barbecue! Does the meat come from a nearby ranch? Like maybe one of the ranches mentioned in the book? Of course it does!
Where's the Texas toast?

Harmon Gray (Casper van Diem's lookalike) has the dessert tray. How kind of the hero of Alarmingly Charming, inspired by Northanger Abbey's Henry Tilney.
Sweets for the Sweet?
Texas sheet cake, of course!

We're so happy, we dressed up for the occasion!
The authors of Austen in Austin, Volume I! Anita Mae Draper, Gina Welborn, Susanne Dietze, and Debra E. Marvin

  2. Congratulations to four wonderful authors! Looking forward to reading the book! :)

    1. Thanks so much, Karen! We are over the moon!

I hope you enjoy the stories! Thanks for coming by to celebrate with us.

  3. This is just SO cool!! Congratulations to you all!

Or maybe, being from Texas, I should say "Congratulations to y'all!"

    Looking forward to reading!

    1. Thanks for your support, DeAnna! Around here, we love Texas. And Austen, which is just one reason why I'm so eager to read your next Drew mystery...he goes to a Regency party!

I hope you enjoy the stories!

    2. Can't wait to hear what you think of our historic Austen, DeAnna. :)

  4. I sure enjoyed walking around Grapevine TX in September!

    1. I didn't get to do this with would have been so much fun! ACFW is in Grapevine in a year or two, isn't it? Hmm.....

  5. Yay! I'm so excited about this series! But wait. I see a photo of Henry Cavill. Susie, did you know I used him for the model of Joe in True North? He is quite nice to look at. :)

    1. That's funny, I've used him for a character sketch, too.

    2. Oh, yes. That Henry (aka Superman) has probably made it onto a lot of Pinterest story boards.

  6. Thank you to our readers who are entering, even if you aren't commenting!

    1. Deb, I think that's one of the hazards of having a Rafflecopter draw... you get lots of entries, but don't get to chat with the entrants. On the other hand, I'd rather have it this way than hold a party and not have anyone show up, eh.

    2. But sometimes folks aren't on blogger and don't like commenting on posts. With Rafflecopter, they can enter, too. Even if we do miss chatting with them.

  7. Pretty cover and a great concept! I'll look forward to reading these novellas.

    1. Thanks Carrie! We love the cover. Vol 2 cover is similar and just as pretty.

    2. Roseanna White designs the most beautiful covers! I know when I saw her design I got teary.

      Thanks for coming by, Carrie!

    3. Thanks, Carrie. I really hope you have as much fun reading them as we did in the writing. :)

  8. coming late to the party. CONGRATS to the Inkies on the collection release. Yayyyyyyyyy! *flailing arms like Kermit the Frog*
I'm looking forward to reading the collection. I know I'll be loving it because all y'all are so talented.

p.s. I haven't been around because my workplace blocks the Inkwell for some weird reason and I've been having home computer issues. Thanks ANITA, for giving me a small poke to see if I still lived so I could come to the party.
I still say the Inkwell does the best release parties. The eye can-, er, wait staff is always an added bonus.
    CONGRATS again Ladies!

    1. Haha, DebH. You're been with us so long that it wouldn't be right to not invite you when we're having this much fun.

Praying that you're blessed with a working computer and that everything is going good for you.

  9. Yes, it's wonderful to see you! Thanks Deb. We're enjoying ourselves. A little reward for hard work is rather nice!

I can see why the Inkwell is blocked. All that chocolate and so many pretty (male) faces! And our lovely ACFW photo

  10. Hurray for Austen in Austin! So excited to see this become a reality at last. Everyone was so creative in coming up with their ideas for this collection.

    1. Lisa! I can't wait for your story in Volume 2 to come out so that everyone can see what happens when little Eva in my Romantic Refinements grows up into a young lady. So exciting! :)

  11. Congratulations ladies! I can't enter this draw but I did enter Anita's! So looking forward to reading this book - one way or another!

  12. Sorry I'm late to the party, but I did promote it earlier this week. Truly, I'm so excited for the release of this book, and can't wait until mine comes out in the fall :) A big congrats to all of the volume 1 ladies.
