Lady Meredith has an unusual pass time to keep her busy while her husband Lord Julian is away on important Royal business. She finds positions for worthy, upstanding gentry. Among those is Abigail whose past is problematic due to her deceased unscrupulous father. Another group of clients are four of the Royal Guardsmen of Batavaria who chose to stay in England when their King returned home.
Meredith has tasked Fin Huber to guard Abigail when someone comes looking for her. Along with her pet, Fortune, the matchmaking feline, Meredith also credits herself with bringing couple together. Fortune is an excellent judge of character.
This was a fun foray into Regency drawing rooms and customs, with a bit of humor, a dash of romance and more than a whiff of danger, this is a clean read that takes you away to a different era.
