CROSSHAIRS by Patricia Bradley (Natchez Trace Park Rangers #3), Reviewed by Rebecca Maney

"Ainsley Beaumont had at least nine lives, and she'd about used up all of them."

It seemed that everywhere Investigative Services Branch Ranger Ainsley Beaumont went, someone was literally taking a shot at her. . .  and she wasn't even at home in Tennessee, Ainsley was currently on assignment in Natchez, Mississippi, where she grew up. Knowing that Ainsley was familiar with the area, she had been sent to Natchez to investigate the tragic death of a pregnant teen-age girl on park property. What she found was a masculine distraction, a great aunt who had been vandalized, confusing family history, and more loose ends in her case than she could count. Did she dare admit that she was glad former FBI sniper, turned interpretive ranger, Lincoln Steele was going to assist her? Maybe. After all, they certainly had history.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor, If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up."
This story had multiple scenarios playing out within its pages, and layers upon layers of backstories which ultimately culminated into a really good book. Nothing added up until it did, nobody wanted to tell the truth until they had to, nowhere remained safe for very long and practically no one proved trustworthy; even those who should have been. Fans of romantic suspense and in particular this author, might naturally conclude that this is one of her best books to date.
* 3.5 stars. I purchased this book and was under no obligation to provide a positive review.

ABOUT THE BOOK
When evil just won't quit, good must prevail

Investigative Services Branch ranger Ainsley Beaumont wishes the visit to her hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, was under better circumstances. When she arrived to investigate the murder of a pregnant teenager, she never imagined that she would become the killer's next target--or that she'd have to work alongside an old flame.

After he almost killed a child, former FBI sniper Lincoln Steele couldn't bring himself to fire a gun, which had deadly consequences for his best friend. Crushed beneath a load of guilt, Linc is working at Melrose Estate as an interpretive ranger. But as danger closes in on Ainsley during her murder investigation, Linc will have to find the courage to protect her.

The only question is, will it be too little, too late?
