Murder on the Moor is Now Available - GIVEAWAY

I'm thrilled to announce that, after what felt like years of waiting, Book Five in the Drew Farthering Mystery series, Murder on the Moor, is now available.

Here's the story:

At the urgent request of Drew's old school friend, Hubert "Beaky" Bloodworth, Drew and Madeline Farthering come to Bloodworth Park Lodge in the midst of the Yorkshire moors, a place as moody and mysterious as a Brontë hero. According to Beaky, there have been several incidents of mischief making out on the moor, property destroyed, fires started, streams dammed up, sheep and cattle scattered and, if local gossip is to be believed, the sighting of the shadowy figure of a great black hound. Worst of all, the vicar has been found dead on the steps of the church, and no one can imagine who would want to kill him.
Beaky is obviously smitten with his wife of eight months, the gorgeous and vivacious Sabrina Bloodworth, though it's hard to imagine what she sees in a man as awkward and plain as he. Drew can't help wondering if Sabrina's affections lie more with Beaky's money than himself and, just perhaps, with the fiery Welsh gamekeeper, Rhys Delwyn. Delwyn says poachers are to blame for the recent trouble, Sabrina claims the moor is haunted, and Beaky suspects that Carter Gray, a neighboring landowner with a longstanding grudge against the Bloodworths, is behind the episodes. But when someone else is murdered and the troubling incidents grow more threatening, Drew begins to suspect local ne'er-do-well Jack Midgley of more than poaching. But just how does Midgley fit into the scheme and who is paying him? It's up to Drew to look past his own prejudices, determine what is really going on, and find the killer before it's too late.

I had such fun writing this one. And, being the Anglophile that I am, I very much enjoyed researching the Yorkshire moors and some of the legends that are told even today. The tales of a huge spectral hound haunting the moors did not originate with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles but are far older and more deeply attached to the lonely moors and English legend.

I'm also very excited to say that I've seen the cover for Drew's sixth adventure, Death at Thorburn Hall, and it will be revealed exclusively in my next newsletter. Now's a great time to become a member of Drew's crew. You can sign up at http://www.juliannadeering.com

  1. First off, CONGRATS!! :) It must be very exciting to see your hard work in book form and know it's being loved by many fans. :)

    I'll answer all three...

    1. The thing that makes a mystery great is if you can get the reader to sit on the edge of their seat wanting to know more. If you can stump even the best detectives. You've managed to stump me twice and the other two times I've figured it out partially. I believe that is why...

    2. Your Drew series are my favorite cozy mysteries. I like to be stumped and I love engaging characters. Yours has both, so where can you go wrong? :)

    3. Given I have yet to read the fifth one, I would love to see a baby and/or Nick get his happy ending. Nick is one of my favorites, so I find myself wishing for him to get a good story as well. Oh, I want Madeline's aunt to come back into play as well. I loved her. She made me laugh.

Thanks for the chance to win! My contact info is - Ninjaspy13 (at) gmail (dot) com

  6. What makes a good mystery for me is one with a good puzzle to it. I get the pieces and try to fit them all together but I'm only able to figure it out at the end. Add wonderful characters that I can revisit and that makes a good cozy mystery for me. Thanks so much for the giveaway and congrats on this new release!

  8. I've read all of Drew's books except for this one (and I'm hoping to read it soon--would love to win it!). I really enjoy the characters. It would be fun for Drew and Madeline to have a baby, though probably not too soon. They need to be free to travel; it would be harder with an infant. I'd also like to see Nick and Carrie marry. I imagine whatever you decide will be fine with me!

Tension and angst are part of a great mystery. I love mysteries that pull me in from the beginning and keeps me guessing until the end.

  14. I can’t tell you exactly what makes a good mystery, but can tell you I adore them. I read most of the Nancy Drew books as a young girl. As an adult, I discovered the Lord Peter Wimsey books by Dorothy L. Sayers, and just loved those—I still do. Also I really enjoy Agatha Christie's Tommy and Tuppence a couple who solve crimes together. Another mystery solving couple I really like are Mary Higgins Clark’s Alvirah and Willie Meehan.

Please include me in this giveaway, I have read all the books in this series and think they are wonderful!
