PAULA'S REVIEW:
Poignant little story that brought tears to my eyes, showing the love of a husband to his very ill wife. Zecheriah wanted to give his wife Emmalie a meaningful Valentine gift. 

Ms. Cox writes to make you feel the emotions of the characters. She showed that heartfelt and meaningful actions were gifts that money can’t buy. 

The point that came across was that when everything goes wrong, the best place to be is close to Jesus.

Although it was quite different, I was reminded of the story The Gift of the Magi by O’Henry. It had the same sacrificial tone that embodies true love. 

Short but heartwarming, this story pulls at the heartstrings.

Apparently so. Wildlife veterinarian Paradise Alden had come face to face with the big cat and lived to tell the story, thanks to her boyfriend Blake Lawson's quick response. The evidence showed that a privately owned animal had been turned loose on The Sanctuary Wildlife Preserve for the express purpose of stalking Paradise, and oddly enough the encounter is coupled with an unveiled threat on the cusp of her half-brother Drew's visit.

Solving her parents' murder had been hanging over Paradise's shoulders for fifteen years. The coincidental deaths of Drew's parents in the same time frame was certainly curious, making everyone convinced that the two incidents were connected. Now that the two siblings have re-united, they begin to dig through every thread of evidence, while it becomes crystal clear that someone is ready and willing to kill again in order to hide a decades old conspiracy.

With its dizzying array of plot threads and red herrings, this story leads readers through a maze of possibilities, with a conclusion that most would never see coming, and even if they had, would never have predicted the depth of depraved intentions. TRIXI'S REVIEW:
This is an eye-opening look at a disaster that happened in December of 1917 in Halifax Nova Scotia. A piece of history I didn’t know existed but appreciated learning through the expert pen of Terrie Todd. She brought it to vivid detail in the lives of her characters by both their reactions and emotions. It’s also a romance story which prevails through the tough times that happen afterwards...one that tests the love of Oliver and Pearline. I think for me this story touched on a lot of emotion that fully involved me. What a truly enjoyable read!

Faith-filled and emotional, you can’t help but be completely immersed in the pages of this story!!

"There's something terrifying about staring into the eyes of a serial killer."

Private investigator Sophie Walsh had worked incredibly hard alongside local law enforcement to deliver justice for the three women whom The Perfect Princess Killer had murdered. On the morning of convicted killer Kurt Fogerty's sentencing, everything that Sophie assumed about the case fell apart on the way into the courthouse. Starting all over again; now that was something that Sophie definitely knew how to do.

These kinds of investigative plot lines are my very favorite! This story starts out at a reasonable pace, but in the blink of an eye, one discovery puts everyone in panic mode, rapidly pulling on every thread of evidence until the answers fall into place. The results prove shocking.

A Sweet Patriotic Romance Series Across American History

PAULA'S REVIEW:
I love learning about history and this story was just the thing to read during our country’s 250th anniversary! 

Taken from real accounts and background information, the author has crafted an awe inspiring tale of patriotism in 1776. 

Lucy is a goldsmith working in her father’s shop and meets Branch who is a friend of Martha Washington. Lucy is a Patriot and is unsure of where Branch stands in the Patriotic cause. I liked the atmospheric writing that put me right in the story. Ms. Hatfield portrayed the characters with a sure faith that showed in their actions. 

The author depicted the spies with interesting information about spy craft of the era, including the dangers. 

Although the romance was slow, it was very well drawn. The way the locket, other pieces of jewelry and other items that might be in a goldsmith shop were used was very interesting. 

This was a great start to a truly American story. I look forward to the others in the series.

A solid declaration. Kitty Grenville's life had been full of them. Removed from India at a very young age, she and her brother became their grandfather's wards and the presumed inheritors of his vast fortune. Apparently even Kitty's marriage has been predetermined, for her groom to be is none other than the heir apparent to the highly profitable East India Company, Sebastian Sinclair. Kitty would much rather live out her nights studying the stars.

Traveling to England to defend the East India Company amongst the rising concerns of illegal opium trade and mistreatment of contractees is the last thing that Sebastian Sinclair would have chosen to do, but adding marriage to his list of assignments? In spite of his misgivings, Sebastian complies with his own grandfather's edict and is dutifully reintroduced to a lovely young woman who seems determined to sidestep his intentions. In a way, he doesn't blame her, nevertheless Kitty's reckless determination to make her own decisions nearly derails their reputations, prompting a rash decision with life long consequences.

Rich in color, culture, and characters this story stretches its seams with shrouded insinuations of dark deals and selfish motives. It would be miraculous for love to take root in such an environment of hurt, distrust, danger and greed. Only the One who put the stars in place and gave them their names could perform such a feat!

A solid trio of Christmas suspense stories.
 

Do You See What I See by Sarah Hamaker:
First time reading this author and she does a great job of putting suspense into a surprise encounter, weaving a faith thread of forgiveness and going beyond for a friend. Oakleigh has a love that shows obedience to the Golden Rule.
 

Do You Hear What I Hear by Jayna Breigh:
It is always fun to read a Jayna Brieigh story. She really conveys what is in a character’s head. Second chance with Jack is possible but only with forgiveness and compassion. It helps that Elise and Jack are searching for answers together. Legalese is understandable and enjoyable.
 

Do You Know What I Know by Kimberley Woodhouse:
A food contest with two people who are surprised to see each other. Set in Alaska and with danger cropping up, the sparks fly again for Faith and Liam as Liam seeks forgiveness and they both seek God’s will.
 

These three accomplished authors put their own expertise into three wonderful novellas. They showcase second chances, love and forgiveness in a charming and suspenseful way.

PAULA'S REVIEW:
It is always fascinating to me to see how author Nancy Mehl crafts her main characters and her villains. She presents profiler Kaely Quin-Hunter as having a unique way to ferret out the clues to an unknown subject. The author is also adept at getting into the mind of a criminal.

This time Kaely is on her way to visit Erin, another profiler, when she is kidnapped. She has to use her unusual abilities to get herself out of a very sticky situation. Back at Erin’s house, Erin, police chief Adrian and FBI agent Noah, Kaely’s husband, try to decipher the clues in poems that the kidnapper has given them. 

They are on a deadline. 

This book was exciting, using danger and a short window of time that made me use my powers of observation right along with the characters. This one was tricky because the villain was not typically evil. The side characters were well drawn and each had an important role in the story. The author was skillful at showing how Noah was feeling, trying to stay strong while focused on solving the riddle. I was impressed with the way the main characters relied on God for the outcome and took time to pray and put everything in God’s hands. 

Fatal Finale was an excellent way to end this series. Ms. Mehl has become a favorite author.

Contemporary Southern Literary Fiction for Book Clubs with Family Secrets and Redemption

“A story does not need to be pain-free to be beautiful.”

I really enjoyed this compelling story of Tess coming to grips with her past after receiving an old watch that holds quite a history. She has to confront her old life when Elliot comes back into her sphere. He is not the person she remembers. The one who hurt her. “In this moment at least, Elliot Sullivan knew how to be exactly the person she needed.” Elliot has overcome things in his past also. 

A theme of forgiveness permeates the story and through scripture, it is examined and pondered on until the meaning becomes clear.

The story is beautifully written and the emotions are raw at times. The growth that Tess goes through is sometimes painful but always encouraging to see. An important secondary character is Amos, a mentor, who lives a godly life in front of Tess, always ready to impart wisdom.

Relevant and relatable, the story caused reflection in my own life. A prominent theme was to see ourselves as God sees us, that we are worthy of His love and sacrifice, and to treat others likewise.

Great adventure story set in the Canadian wilderness of 1837. 

Two unlikely people meet on the road, a wealthy young lady, Charlotte, searching for a missing brother and Joshua Robertson on his way to earn some money in order to get his young stepbrother out of indenture. 

The author was adept at describing the situations on a muddy trail and the turbulent and dangerous times of political unrest between Canada and England. 

Full of secrets and intrigue, the story shows the faith of the characters in dire situations. Charlotte remembers many of the scriptures cited by her faithful servant, Fulton, a father figure. Joshua struggles with what is ethically right when he finds that he is dealing with a disreputable man.

As Charlotte and Joshua travel, they learn each other’s character and grow from friendship to genuine love.
Historical fiction at its best.

This was a thrill-fest from the start. Not only are Sarah and Ryder battling the elements, they are being pursued by men who pose a threat but they do not kow why or who is behind it. Moreover, Sarah has secrets she is only willing to reveal a little at a time. 

Excitement abounds with a believable scenario and twists that just keep coming. 

Sarah is a heroine who is determined and strong, focused on her mission to find evidence that her grandfather gave on her his deathbed and might have been instrumental in her brother’s death. Ryder is an expert wilderness guide who is haunted by his father’s death on a dangerous mountain. Together, they embark on a quest that very well could get them killed in the unforgiving terrain of the Cascade Mountains. They just need to trust God and eachother. 

This first in the Mercy Ridge series has me expectant for the rest of the series.

If you are looking for a book that is historical, steeped in faith, and has an intriguing mystery, try this one. 

Angie is painting backdrops in the The Majestic Theater where her late mother was a favorite actress. But her mother warned her to stay away from the historic building. It seems others do not want her delving into her mother’s death and she receives threats. 

Trace, who oversees the renovation of the theater, comes to her aid and together they try to puzzle out the mysteries surrounding the theater. 

The author has taken a real place and similar events and fashioned an absorbing story that has a surprising ending. This has the theme of realizing that God forgives completely, if we repent, then we can rest in His finished work of salvation. “We must not simply repent enough to be forgiven, but surrender enough to be completely changed.” “No sin you commit is greater than God’s grace.” 

I appreciate the honesty of this beautifully written book. 

The author gave a sneak peek of the next book in the series which looks equally as entertaining.
