An Uplifting Inspirational Romance (K-9 Companions Book 37)
KIM'S REVIEW:
Healing the Veteran is a touching story that weaves together romance, redemption, and emotional healing.
Both Jolene and Ace are carrying emotional scars—Jolene from her difficult upbringing, and Ace, a wounded veteran, from the trauma of a mission gone wrong that cost him his leg.
I really appreciated how Jolene never backs down, even when faced with Ace’s gruff demeanor. Her determination to find a forever home for Bear, a K9 hero with PTSD of his own, is both inspiring and heartwarming. As Jolene and Ace slowly begin to open up to one another, their bond deepens—not just through shared struggles, but through genuine connection and faith. The spiritual elements come through powerfully toward the end, adding another layer of depth to their journey.
Bear, the dog, completely stole my heart. His playful “sad dog” antics brought just the right touch of humor and lightness to balance the emotional themes.
Overall, this is a beautifully written story of second chances, healing, and the unexpected ways love finds us—even when we least expect it.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith thread is light. 5 stars.
BackCover Blurb:
A K9 in need could help open his closed-off heart.
Haunted by a disastrous military mission, wounded veteran Ace Gatlin vows to live alone on his farm so he can never fail anyone again. However, this doesn’t discourage his determined neighbor, physiotherapist Jolene Pearl, who shows up at his door with a troubled K-9 desperate for a home. Jolene is sure the two injured warriors need each other, and soon, their joint efforts to rehabilitate sweet Bear chip away at the shrapnel lodged in Ace’s heart. But when a catastrophic tornado strikes Willow Oaks, more than just their budding relationship is put to the test. Can Jolene help Ace see himself as worthy of happily-ever-after?
