BROOKE by Ronie Kendig, Reviewed by Kim #ReleaseDay

I have been dying to read Brooke's story since the second I finished reading Range, well actually since Ronie Kendig has been dangling the proverbial carrot with snippets of Cord and Brooke and their story since the beginning of this series. My expectations were also very high for this story and I was also a little worried that it wouldn't be my favorite because Brooke can be just a tad headstrong and somewhat secretive. I'm happy to say that not only did I love this story, if I were forced to choose, I'd say it's my favorite of the series. I can also tell you why (mostly) with just one word - Cord.

Wow! I knew I liked Cord from his appearances in the prior stories, but in his and Brooke's story, we get to really know him and his personality and he's pretty amazing! He's all the things I love in my book heroes! His snappy comebacks and one liners are perfection and I love how he slowly wormed his way into Brooke's heart. I also really loved getting to know Brooke from the inside out. Her exterior may be tough, but inside she has a heart of gold. And without going into spoiler territory, we have some AWESOME secondary characters in this story. There's so much amazing banter in this story and if you've read any of my reviews, you know how I absolutely love good banter. Somehow, even though this story had very heavy topics, including human trafficking and forced labor, Ronie Kendig beautifully lightens this story with great banter and wonderful characters.
This story is one for the keeper shelf, actually this entire series is. I'm sad that it is over because The Metcalfes are amazing characters with stories that are just as amazing. All. The. Stars.
*I purchased this book and received a complementary copy. All opinions are my own, the faith thread is light.

Backcover Blurb:
Prioritizing career over family cost Brooke Metcalfe Mulroney everything—her relationship with her siblings, her marriage, her children. Written off by her family, she delves deeper into her work. Until a life-altering moment offers a chance at something she didn’t know she wanted—redemption. But her self-centered ways nip at her heels as she goes on the lam to do what she knows is right.

Former Special Forces operator and founder of MiLE, Cord Taggart wages war on human trafficking by taking the violence to the wicked, determined to never again let an innocent die because he did nothing. But maybe he’s bitten off more than he can chew this time as he works to track down New York City high-powered attorney Brooke Metcalfe, who is MIA. Then there’s her brothers who have threatened to chase him into the afterlife should he fail.

Tricky are the hours as Cord negotiates many battles: freeing the captives, demolishing the Trench that has made millions off the skin-trade industry, and his growing, deep-rooted feelings for the bombshell in her highfalutin tower. Brooke must put her life—and heart—in the hands of the thick-skulled operator.
