THE CAIRO CURSE by Pepper Basham, Reviewed by Winnie Thomas

Freddie and Grace Mysteries #2

It was such fun to read more adventures of Frederick and Grace as they go on a belated honeymoon to Italy with a detour to Egypt. Pepper Basham has created some colorful, engaging characters for this series, and I loved seeing it continue. It’s a good thing Grace has been learning a lot from her mystery reading, since some mysterious and deadly things start taking place among the tombs and artifacts. Basham’s signature wit and humor shine through, even as the body counts rise and unfortunate accidents happen.

“There was no man Frederick trusted more. But for some reason, the idea of Blake and Grace together followed by the sound of gunfire did not bode well. For anyone.”

“Yes, God had given him much more than he deserved, and sometimes, he wondered if God had given him more than he could manage.”

Filled with action, adventure, suspense, and humor, this tale is a delightful addition to the series. While this book could possibly stand alone, it’s much more enjoyable if you read The Mistletoe Countess first to get more of the backstory, and a better feel for the characters. I’m looking forward to more Freddie and Grace stories in the future.
