"There had to be a way out of the friend zone."
Except that Derrick's brother Michael had intimated that,"There's a lot about Jasmine you don't know". Wrestling with his thoughts about the lovely Iraqi woman wasn't getting him any closer to revealing his heart, so when the person in question approaches Derrick with an extraordinary request, his traitorous heart takes over his good sense and he replies, "yes".
What had she been thinking? Clearly Jasmine's plan to rescue her friend from a terrible situation was well-intentioned, but the aftermath had placed Derrick, and by association his family and her sister, squarely in the middle of danger they had vowed to avoid. More importantly . . . Derrick did not know everything about her . . . and whose fault was that? Hers, and hers alone.
When it becomes clear that all the running, hiding, and sheltering was still not enough, things get dicey, the truth comes out, and God comes through. There's no other explanation than that.
What a wonderful, high octane romantic suspense that seemed doomed from the beginning . . . until the end.*I purchased a copy and was under no obligation to provide a positive review. 3.5 stars
