Lassoing the single mom’s heart…
A Rocky Mountain Heroes story

her get comfortable in the saddle. And, at her children’s insistence, Lily
finds herself promoting his rodeo school.

his heart…or can they discover a love that conquers both their fears?
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

It took Mindy Obenhaus forty years to
figure out what she wanted to do when she grew up, but once God called her to
write, she never looked back. A three-time Carol Award finalist, Mindy is
passionate about touching readers with Biblical truths in an entertaining, and
sometimes adventurous, manner. When she’s not writing, she enjoys cooking and
spending time with her grandchildren at her Texas ranch.
Karen's Review:
Her
Colorado Cowboy is such a sweet love story about letting go of your
fears and past heartaches! I can totally relate to Lily Davis’s
reluctance to grow closer to Noah Stephens, owner of the ranch where her
children go on a horseback ride. As handsome and appealing as a cowboy
might be, like Lily, I’m a total city girl. Also, I’m not extremely
afraid of horses like Lily is, but I’ll admit that their large size does
make me nervous!
As
the story progresses, Noah grows closer to Lily over the course of the
summer, and he also falls for her two children. I think that this is one
of the best parts of the book! I loved getting glimpses of Noah’s
tender side as he had parenting moments with Lily’s kids. The story has a
sweet conclusion, and now I’m excited to catch up on the rest of the
Rocky Mountain Heroes series!

Tours!
ABOUT THE BOOK

Author: Heather Norman Smith

Release Date: March 1, 2019
Recently retired Colleen Hill is always busy, constantly on
a quest to make life more interesting.
When the ladies’ group at her church partners with the local
children’s home, Colleen jumps in as usual, volunteering to share her passion
for cooking with a troubled teenager named Grace. But Colleen must balance the
new project with her pursuit of becoming a contestant on a television game
show, along with all the other ideas her brain continually spins out.
Colleen’s daughter Melody is quite different. She lives a
calm, simple life and is content with who she is. That is, until an unexpected
opportunity to work with Grace, too, pushes her to reevaluate life and dare to
take on bigger dreams. The path starts with a newly-found interest in
soap-making and leads her to responsibilities she didn’t even know she wanted,
including helping Grace understand the meaning of her name.

KAREN's REVIEW:
KAREN's REVIEW:
Grace
& Lavender is the story of two women and a teenage girl who are all
trying to navigate their futures at different points in their lives.
Colleen is a retired grandmother who is looking for her next big
project. Melody, her daughter, is her opposite, content to live life as
it comes. Grace, a young teen living at the local youth home, is
distrustful of adults after an abusive childhood. I love the core of
this story, how all three women approach change in their lives so
differently. Colleen thrives on it, constantly flitting from one big
idea to the next. Melody is happy to go with the flow until that’s no
longer an option. Grace understandably hates change in her life because
very few of them have turned out well for her. As the three women come
together to help Grace through mandated community service, their hearts
are all opened to God’s plans for them, far beyond what any of them
originally plan.
The
beginning of this book meanders a bit with Colleen’s mental musings. It
was a little bit chaotic but it definitely gave you a sense of how her
mind works! There were also other parts of the story where unnecessary
things were stated. For example, when Colleen received a phone call this
is how it was mentioned: “It was a call that would change the weekly
routine she had known for some time.” I also felt like some plot points
were left unresolved or not delved into deeply enough. I would’ve liked
to see more of Melody’s romantic life, and I would’ve also liked to see
Grace make peace with her past. One more strong edit would clear up some
of these issues in the story and take it from a 3.5-star book to a
5-star book!
Overall,
this story has such tender moments, such beauty even in the hard parts
of life. I really enjoyed seeing how Colleen, Melody, and Grace all get
their happy ending. I must admit that some of the twists in the plot
kept me surprised, which I loved!

Here's Karen's Review!
When
Charla Winthrop decides to make a drastic change in her life, she moves
halfway across the country to small town Missouri and immediately meets
Sam Packard, single father and local carpenter. From there, their
relationship progresses quickly, and they envision a picture-perfect
future together. As all good love stories go, there arises complications
that threaten their newfound joy. While I won’t spoil the surprise, I
must say that I applaud Cynthia Herron for addressing a hot topic for
some families. However, I feel like the story is sometimes repetitive
and a little hard to believe even for someone with a Christian
background. There are also many instances where the obvious is stated,
and I prefer a story that shows me the characters’ feelings and motives
instead of spelling it out. Still, with its cozy Ozark small town
setting and scenes that take place during the holidays, this book
reminds me of the TV holiday movies that we all love!

And now, Karen's review!
When the Heart Sings is full of universal lessons for all of us: forgiveness, patience, and finding friendship in the unlikeliest of places. When Polish Christians Natia and Teodor are forced from their home and deported to a German labor camp, they endure very different but equally heartwrenching circumstances. Teodor, always under scrutiny by Erich, the camp overseer, faces extra cruelty and work demands. Natia, living as the housekeeper in the overseer's home, faces a very different set of challenges. Home alone all day with Elfriede, Erich's wife, she is forced to take over all housework. As they slowly learn to communicate, Elfriede and Natia discover that they have more in common than they realize. When Natia brings a Jewish baby into the home, she and Elfriede are determined to love the baby and to keep it safe from Erich at all costs. The way that this plays out and the sacrifices that are made are truly inspiring.
The supporting characters in this story also portray so well those who worked secretly in the background to aid the helpless victims of the war. One of those characters in the story said my favorite line in the whole book:
"We look at our circumstances and see things as not good. But we don't see the picture clearly, as the Lord does. He knows what's going on. Things happen just the way he has planned they will. We aren't to find our joy and contentment in people or in our circumstances, but in him."
When I read that, I had to put down the book and think for a minute about how truly blessed I am. It's so easy to get caught up in my everyday problems, and some of them are genuinely stressful, but truly, there is nothing that I can't get through with the Lord's help. I've never been good at praising the Lord in times of trial, but if victims of the Holocaust can do it then so should I. I'm so grateful to Liz Tolsma for this touching reminder!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Gilead Publishing through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I've
read a lot of wonderful redemption stories, but A Vast and Gracious
Tide in particular really pulled at my heartstrings. I could feel
Caden's inner turmoil at the beginning of the story, his struggle to
find a spark of hope and a reason to live. The phantom pains, the survivors' guilt, and the overwhelming sense of loss were all part of Caden's daily life. I know veterans and amputees, and Lisa Carter portrays their struggle accurately and respectfully.
McKenna
was also familiar with loss in her life, although her life
circumstances differed greatly from Caden's. Both of them were
struggling to move on with their lives and to recognize God's vision for
their futures. I have to say that McKenna's determination and
persistence with Caden were extremely admirable! He spent a lot of time
pushing her away, and she handled it quite well even when angered. As
Caden and McKenna slowly unraveled the mystery of the dead body on the
beach, I was excited to see how it played out. The way that they drew
closer, challenging one another and growing, is so exciting and
romantic. I laughed, I cried, and I enjoyed all of the action too!
This
was my first chance to read one of Lisa Carter's books, and I'm so glad
that I did. I'm excited to look for her other books now! I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
