"God put you here. You need to believe that and know you're the exact person needed for this hour."
. . . Police Chief Autumn Long had her doubts, for "sometimes it felt like the bad guys always won".
She was fighting for her job, she knew that, but Chief Autumn Long didn't have time to play small town politics. Shadow Gap, Alaska was experiencing an unprecedented number of crimes and Autumn was determined to stay focused on solving each and every one of them. Short staffed, she turns to a virtual newcomer, Grier Bennett for assistance. While it was obvious that Grier wasn't being totally forthcoming about who he was and where his abundance of skills came from, Autumn was extremely grateful for his help. He exhibited, as her grandmother would say, fine "mettle".
As danger escalates, the lines between personal and professional begin to blur; Autumn and Grier have to trust what they do know, for what they don't know . . . yet . . . would make the difference between death and survival, for themselves and for others. Would Grier live long enough to keep his promise. . . "You called me by my first name, finally." But it came with a price . . . " Never. Seen. You. Cry."
So many criss-crossing lines to untangle; the small picture being part of a much larger canvas, so much so that the characters themselves didn't fully know what they were dealing with until . . . the end. And what an ending it was! Fans of romantic suspense will eat this story with a spoon. (As in, gobble it up!)
" But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. " Proverbs 4:18

He emerges from the shadows and proves his mettle, but his presence in her life could be a deadly trap for them both. If his secret is exposed, all will be lost. And he's not sure even Autumn could save him.
