Book One of Hallowed Halls Series
*Trigger Warning: abused, murdered women, serial killer.
I had a hard time dealing with the evil portrayed in this book. The bad guy creeped me out.
Megan had a crazed person killing women who were close to her. It was very disturbing. The suspect was clever enough to evade capture, trick the FBI team and go undiscovered for a long while. I guessed who Angel was about 2/3 of the way in although I didn’t get all the implications until they were revealed.
The author did a stellar job with conveying the mind of the dark Angel. She also crafted Megan and her ex husband, Jack, and their backstory with empathy. I like the way Jack was portrayed as coming to Salvation and that he was willing to forgive. Likewise, the hard things of the past did not keep Megan down. The scene with her father was an integral part of the story. I was glad to see that redemption was a theme in the story.
It was an uncomfortable read for me but the message of faith, Salvation and redemption came through.
*I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*4 stars and a solid faith thread
BackCover Blurb:
They were a match made in the hallowed halls of Quantico. Until Death came knocking…
Seven years ago, FBI Profiler Megan Iluak tapped into the mind of a serial killer—and nearly became his last victim. Her FBI colleague and then husband, Jack, put everything he had into finding the killer, but the case took its toll on Megan and Jack and destroyed their marriage. With her heart in shambles, Megan fled to the small Inuit village where she was from in remote Alaska, but vivid nightmares of the killer won’t let her go so easily. And soon, her dreams take a fresh and frightening twist from nightmare to reality.
Jack thought he’d made the right decision by letting Megan go and not fighting for their marriage. He believed she was better off without him after he’d almost gotten her killed. Now, with a new set of murders matching their closed case, there’s only one person who understands this killer enough to bring him in, and that’s Megan.
Jack wasn’t expecting all the old feelings he thought he’d buried down deep to resurface when he sees Megan again. Nor is he prepared to come face-to-face with Megan’s secret. The one that raises the stakes impossibly high.
