EVERY HOUR UNTIL THEN by Gabrielle Meyer, Reviewed by Rebecca Maney

TIMELESS SERIES #5

REBECCA'S REVIEW:
" . . . there was only one thing to do. I had to surrender to God's plan. I wasn't sure what it was, or how it would work, but I was at the end of my own abilities."

Managing her life between London, England in 1887 and Washington, DC in 1938 has just gotten a lot more complicated. Coming to the realization that her sister's banishment from their London home was essentially a death warrant, Kathryn's work as a guest curator at the London Museum becomes all the more crucial. Jack the Ripper was an elusive historical figure in one time period and a dangerous criminal in another.

Might Kathryn's research expose the identity of the cold blooded killer and thus provide her with the evidence necessary to prevent her sister's demise? Time-crossers (of which she was one) were warned against trying to change history in either path, automatically forfeiting that portion of their life forever . . . which made the situation all the more heartbreaking, since this particular portion of her life included her beloved.

Absolutely brilliant! It is almost inconceivable to realize how skillfully this author twisted and turned the cogs of history to write this alluring, believable conclusion to one of history's most infamous mysteries ever autopsied within a narrative.

Timeless Book #5: An Inspirational Victorian
and World War II-Era Time-Travel Romance

PAULA'S REVIEW:
Another captivating time crossing story that I could not put down. “There was a web of secrets, power, and illusions casting its shadow on 1888 and 1938.”

Kathryn is set to make a decision about which time she wants to live in. She thinks she has already made up her mind. But things change when she sets out to save her sister from certain peril. “Sometimes, plans need to be flexible to see what God wants for us.” She learns to be open to what God wants and not assert her own will.

This story fed my history-loving heart. What a privilege for Kathryn, to work at the Smithsonian, and travel to London to work on a special exhibit. But shock comes when she researches Jack the Ripper. She is astounded by the connections she discovers between her timelines. She also must be very careful to make sure that she does not change history or encounter someone she might know, since there are only 50 years separating her timelines. “The truth can set us free, but it can also put us in danger.”

I loved all the historical detail of both time periods, and how the author deftly wove the timelines together. The premise of a time crosser is unique and interesting, and the settings and characters or totally believable.

The romance tugged at the heart and showed a strong hero with solid, godly principles.

This story may be my favorite of Miss Meyer -till the next one comes out.

ACROSS THE AGES (Timeless Series #4) by Gabrielle Meyer, Reviewed by Rebecca and Kim

REBECCA'S REVIEW:
"It's the difficult things that mold us and shape us, challenging us to become better versions of ourselves."

Consequently, what if "ourselves" were literally one person living two timelines with no direct knowledge of how, or why? Caroline Reed lives on Middleburg Plantation in South Carolina with her authoritative grandfather while Caroline Baldwin lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her parents; her father being a renowned preacher of the Gospel.

When her 1727 grandfather tries to press Caroline into marriage with an unwanted suitor, she does the only thing she knows to do . . . run . . . far, far, away . . . which ultimately lands her on a ship full of pirates, disguised as a young boy. When Caroline's 1927 family skirts the edges of scandal, she goes to great lengths to weave her two lives together by locating her mother. If only she could decide what to do about the two men in her life; a question that looms in the background every time she wakes up in an alternate timeline. Unknowingly, Caroline has a few short months to make a lifelong decision.

From beginning to end, Caroline's choice was carefully and creatively concealed, leaving the story with plenty of room to explore the universal longing to be known, loved, forgiven, redeemed; waiting with rapt expectation for God to reveal His plan . . . and He does!

"My life hadn't been a curse, but a blessing, one I wanted to share with the people I loved."

KIM'S REVIEW:
I absolutely love this series! I am so glad there are going to be five books! I could definitely see it going even longer! My favorite thing about these stories is their uniqueness. I’ve read time travel before, but nothing this creative or exciting! There are so many unexpected things that happen within each timeline! It’ll keep you on your toes, for sure.

Caroline is living in two different times -- 1727 and 1927. I really enjoyed both timelines, but I have to say, 1727 was my favorite. I really liked how different this timeline was. I loved Marcus and his back story. I also loved how kind he was to Caroline and their adventures on the ship. I felt like the 1927 timeline was missing something and while I did really like this story, I felt like it was missing some conflict that was prevalent in the other stories in this series. I can’t go into any details because of spoilers. That being said, I did enjoy this story and definitely recommend it!

Although Across the Ages by Gabrielle Meyer is book four in the Timeless series, it can be read as a standalone. I would suggest reading them in order though because there are pop up characters from other stories and you will more fully understand what the timelines mean for each character and the decisions they must make. I highly recommend this entire series. It is excellent!

In 1727, Caroline disguises herself as a cabin boy and joins a ship sailing for the Bahamas, her mother's last known location, where she crosses paths with a ruthless but handsome pirate and is caught in a web of secrets, deception, and unexpected alliances.

In 1927 St. Paul, Minnesota, Caroline grapples with her other life as the daughter of a renowned preacher. Her two older brothers have fallen prey to the corruption rampant during Prohibition, and Caroline struggles to keep their involvement hidden to save her father's career. As her search for answers about her time-crossing leads her to the dangerous yet exciting world of speakeasies, Caroline enlists the help of a childhood friend who is now a police officer. FOR A LIFETIME by Gabrielle Meyer, Reviewed by Kim

I absolutely love the Timeless series by Gabrielle Meyer! Each and every story is so innovative and so well written. The storylines are always immersive with so many wonderful characters. Whenever I think I know what is going to happen, Ms. Meyer throws me for a loop and does what I totally did not expect or even think of as a possibility! While For a Lifetime is book #3, it can easily be read as a standalone as can all of the previous books in this series.

Grace and Hope are identical twins with polar opposite personalities. I really loved their relationship with each other and how they depended so much on each other because of their time-crossing. In one of their timelines, 1692, they live and work in their father’s tavern during the witch trials in Salem, MA. This storyline was so interesting, yet sad and dark. I wanted them out of there so bad! In their other timeline, 1912, they both have careers that they love and both are close to their parents. I want to say so much more, but basically everything would be a spoiler! So, I will just say that I absolutely loved this story, I was shocked more times than I can say, I cried more times than once, and I was completely satisfied when the story wrapped up! It has been days since I finished this one and it’s still on my mind.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series! I highly recommend each and every story. What amazes me about all of the stories in this series is that there is a time in each when I think that there is no way Ms. Meyer can pull this off so that I am happy with the ending, but each and every time she manages to do it! That takes a talented writer!

(Timeless Book #3): (An Inspirational Historical Time-Travel Romance Novel)

PAULA'S REVIEW:
*That God would love me, that He would call me His child and choose me for this time-crossing gift was amazing to contemplate. It was a burden, to be sure, but it was also a blessing.*

Grace and Hope Eaton are twins with different personalities. But their bond is so strong that they vow to stay together no matter what. Living in two different times is extremely difficult because in one timeframe they live in Salem Village in 1692 during the witch trials. They get a respite in the other timeline in 1912 where Hope is adventurous and learns to fly an airplane, while Grace makes strides as a journalist for a New York newspaper.

Their love lives are problematic as each one pines for a man who does not return their affections. But how can they marry before their 25th birthday, when they are to choose which time period to remain in for the rest of their days?
Lots of twists, turns and danger await them as well as unexpected meetings with people who are connected to them. And underlying it all is an abiding faith that knows God is in control of their lives.

This was another fascinating offering in a unique time-crossing setting that will astonish you and at the same time take you captive with its imaginative storylines.

REBECCA'S REVIEW:
"It had begun."

Time-crossing twins, Grace and Hope Eaton (in 1692 Salem Village, Massachusetts) Cooper (in 1912 New York City) have just a few months to decide which timeline will become their forever life. Neither are particularly drawn to Salem where the burgeoning witch trials have thrown Puritan loyalties into a whirlwind of fear and confusion, masking hidden agendas and personal vendettas swirling around even the most prominent of families. Their Salem father is an esteemed member of the local community, but has misrepresented details about the girls' deceased mother, sparking dangerous curiosity amongst his daughters.

During the days when the girls reside in New York, Hope has an exciting new career looming on the horizon, as she takes to the skies as one of America's first female pilots, while Grace works tirelessly as an investigative journalist fighting for justice with merely a pen and paper. When both young women are threatened by tragedy in each setting, will they be able to discern God's will for their future when their hearts have become entwined with another?

"God knew what I needed more than I did. So I simply asked if He would sit with me, to be my Comforter, my Peace, my Rock amidst the storm."

Fascinating! How the author managed to tie up all the loose details into one amazing story is beyond my comprehension, making this my favorite story in what has become a genre all its own.

IN THIS MOMENT by Gabrielle Meyer, Reviewed by Nicole and Rebecca

NICOLE'S REVIEW:
In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer is an incredible work of fiction that readers are guaranteed to love. Maggie is born to time-crossing parents and lives each day in three different paths, in 1861, in 1941, and 2001. This time-crossing novel will appeal to a wide range of readers, with storylines taking place during the Civil War, the attacks at Pearl Harbor, and the 9/11 attacks.

After the completely unexpected plot twist in When the Day Comes (book one), I did not know how the author could top that ending. However, Gabrielle Meyer continues to amaze me with her creative storylines and strong character development. As Maggie struggled with making her decision of which path to remain in as her 21st birthday approached, I was just as undecided as Maggie was. Any of the three paths seemed like they could be the "right" decision for her, with a handsome suitor in each path to make her choice even more difficult. As Gabrielle Meyer masterfully revealed the ending, everything fell into place perfectly, and I knew that Maggie ended up exactly where she was meant to be.

In This Moment
is highly recommended for fans of time-crossing novels and historical romance. Now I cannot wait to read book three in the series when it releases in May 2024.

REBECCA'S REVIEW:
"Most days, I could pretend that my life was normal. I was a twenty-year old woman searching for my place in the world . . . The only difference was that I had three normal lives . . . I would have to choose which one to keep and which to forfeit."

"Do you ever get scared?" . . . "Of saying good-bye . . . forever?"

Going to sleep in one life, and waking in another had always been a way of life for Margaret Wakefield, Maggie Hollingsworth, and Meg Clarke. Born as a time crosser, she deftly navigated her knowledge of American history between 1861, 1941, and 2001 . . . albeit every once in a while her comments or actions raised a few eyebrows (or even quite a few eyebrows), leaving Maggie no option but to continue on as if nothing unusual had just happened; however, the clock kept ticking towards her twenty-first birthday (and final decision time). Determined to find her true calling, she pursued the field of medicine in each era and tried very hard to guard her heart in the process, but three men made that task particularly difficult. Would one of them prove to "be enough"?

Amazingly, this author has sewn together a trio of intriguing life spans into one very interesting story, recalling how all three time periods had very similar, yet singular challenges. One of my deepest impressions came while reading this particular conversation; "None of us are independent of the ones we love. We're woven together like a big tapestry, with each color unique and vibrant, but making a larger picture possible. You're woven right here for eternity."

And those three men? The ones who made Maggie's heart beat faster? Well . . . "when you know, you know".

WAIT FOR ME by Jody Hedlund, Reviewed by Paula Shreckhise #ReleaseDay

I have been enchanted with this series and want to read the next book as soon as it is available! The concept is unique for a time travel situation. The limits put upon the characters are interesting.

Ms. Hedlund has proven she can write in several different genres and she shines in each one. Her settings are sumptuous in 1300s Canterbury and she depicts the customs well. Dawson Huxam is a flawed hero but comes into his own and shows his worth. Philippa is a beauty in a time when she is being manipulated by her evil uncle. But Dawson reaches back in time to come to her rescue. The stories were tied together by the mysterious holy water and the quest to send it forward in time. There also those in the present who wish to use it for nefarious purposes. I love the way Ms. Hedlund ties it all together and leaves just enough unsolved to make us want to read the next book in the series.

Skillfully written time travel that leaves you wanting more, it contains faith journeys, romance, danger, bravery and an intriguing puzzle.

KIM'S REVIEW
I have been waiting to read In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer since reading the last word of the series’ first book, When the Day Comes. Let me just say this, it was totally worth the wait and I’m anxiously awaiting the next book! Please tell me there’s a next book!

There are so many things I want to say about this story - or should I say these stories? I thought three timelines might get confusing or that I would be unsatisfied at the end because of the timeline Maggie chose, but that was not the case! I loved all three of the timelines! There are so many plot points I want to talk about, but I can’t, because they would all be massive spoilers. What I can say is that I was flipping the pages as fast as I could because I needed to get to the end to find out which path Maggie chose, but at the same time, I did not want this book to end. I was thoroughly engaged in this story from the first page and every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was wrong.

I am really really hoping there will be another story in this series. With this series, Gabrielle Meyer has become an auto buy author for me! Do not miss this series.

PAULA'S REVIEW

Stunning story that builds on the first book. This is about Margaret/Maggie/Meg who is the daughter of Libby from When The Day Comes. Such a unique concept of time crossing in several different eras. This connects three pivotal events in American history: the Civil War, Pearl Harbor and the 2001 attacks. Ms. Meyer shows us how Maggie navigates three different years and what a difficult time she has because she knows she has to choose only one path on her 21st birthday. Each timeline was meticulous in detail and highly believable. The author conveyed the tumultuous emotions that the heroine had in her many encounters across time. I was exhausted for her and though I guessed which time she would choose, I really enjoyed the journey as she interacted with her parents, siblings and love interests in each era. And there were several surprises that I did not anticipate.

Through it all, Maggie truly wanted to choose what God had for her and realized that no matter which path she chose, her calling was to help people heal.

Ms. Meyer has proven she is a talented and polished writer.

If you want a unique experience, I highly recommend this book.

NEVER LEAVE ME by Jody Hedlund, Reviewed by Paula and Nicole

NICOLE'S REVIEW:
Another incredible 5-star novel by Jody Hedlund! This time-travel romance will appeal to a wide range of readers, with storylines taking place both in contemporary and historical times. Even if you do not think you are a fan of time-travel romances, you will be after reading this series! Readers will want to start with Come Back to Me (book one in the Waters of Time series) to achieve maximum enjoyment of the plot lines and to fully understand the background of the characters. The series has such an interesting premise with holy water being able to heal any disease and being a means to cross time for others.

Much like book one in the series, Never Leave Me keeps readers fully invested in the storyline. The beautiful messages of faith incorporated throughout the novel, sizzling romance, and a captivating journey to the Middle Ages filled with danger, intrigue, and suspense make this a must-read novel. The storyline begins about a year after book one ends, with Ellen Creighton and Harrison Burlington taking center stage this time around. It is fascinating to read how the contemporary characters experience life in the Middle Ages and the author’s authenticity in creating the characters.

If you ever watched the time-travel TV show, Timeless, which was on NBC a few years ago, you will definitely enjoy this series.

Never Leave Me is highly recommended for fans of time-travel romance, contemporary romance, and historical romance. I did not want this book to end or have to say goodbye to this wonderful cast of characters. Jody Hedlund…if you see this, please, please, please, write book three to complete the series!!

PAULA'S REVIEW:
What an incredible follow up to Come Back to Me.

We now encounter Ellen Creighton as she is ravaged with a rare disease and cancer. Her trusted friend, wheelchair bound Harrison Burlington, a wealthy nobleman, has tried to make her last days as comfortable as possible while trying to keep his love for her a secret. After a miraculous recovery for both of them, they are still searching for the source of the holy water and the whereabouts of Ellen’s sister and father. But evil thwarts their plans and puts everyone in danger. They ponder if they are worthy caretakers of this secret. “In their quest for the holy water, had they unearthed something God had not wanted them to disturb? While healing and health were incredible gifts, was healing always the best course, or did the suffering and hardship that came with disease serve a purpose, too.”

Lots of intrigue in this well written time travel tale. The main characters shine with their selflessness. Harrison is the best kind of hero. He is kind, thoughtful and has integrity. And Ellen has some self realization as she grows closer to Harrison: “Courage. Instead of always giving up or running away in fear, maybe it was time to pray that she could face the uncertainty of the future with courage.”

Suspend belief and enjoy this captivating book!

Release Day June 1, 2021 Waters of  Time Book #1

“Do not hold yourself accountable for something only God can control.”

What an intriguing story. I have loved time travel for a very long time. I guess it is the possibility of doing the impossible. And it is the perfect escape.

Ms Hedlund wrapped me in a fantasy in 1381. Marian Ceighton, after a message from her father, finds herself back in historic Canterbury in the midst of inconvenience, hardship, a war and an unusual marriage of convenience. William Durham is the perfectly flawed and swoony hero who comes to her rescue. A widower, he is forced to wed Marian but resolves to be the best husband under trying circumstances with God’s help.

Ms. Hedlund has woven a tale that seems plausible and adventurous. The research was extremely well done and had me looking up ampullae and Canterbury Cathedral, wishing I could visit. The Cathedral is the oldest Church in England still in use.

In this story, Canterbury is a magical place with a legend of healing holy water and a beautiful stained glass story that is preserved today.

Well written, romantic and interesting I am glad there is more to the story. I look forward to reading about Marian’s sister, Ellen, and friend, Harrison, and of course the ability to travel back to 1811 once again.

He's left behind tantalizing clues that suggest he's crossed back in time. Insane. Until Marian tests his theories and finds herself in the Middle Ages during a dangerous peasant uprising.

HER PLACE IN TIME by Stephenia McGee, Reviewed by Paula Shreckhise

Time travel has fascinated people since Mark Twain’s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court and The Time Machine by Jules Verne. I admit I have a penchant for time travel movies such as The Time Traveler’s Wife and The Lake House.

In Her Place In Time: A Time Travel Romance novella, Stephenia McGee intrigues and inspires in a unique genre- a Christian Time Travel. I was captivated by this tale that had a very ill Lena Lowry donning a Civil War era gown and stepping back in time to a plantation house being used as a hospital in 1864. Unlikely? Probably! But God governs time and space and this was a story that carried a message that God cares about us and wants to grant us good gifts. Is it a stretch of the imagination? YES! But it was a very enjoyable stretch that shows what a great imagination Ms. McGee has. In addition, it provided a back story for part of the novels in the Liberator series by Ms. McGee. In her Historical Notes she gives us a peek into her research for this novella.

Can love offer a new future…in the past?

A mysterious gown, unexpected courage, and a love that transcends time.

Nursing student Lena Lowery faces a grim diagnosis and a dangerous surgery. On the cusp of the life-changing procedure, Lena stays at the Rosswood Plantation Bed and Breakfast for one last weekend with her mother. There in an antique armoire, Lena discovers a Civil War-era gown that holds an unimaginable cure…a trip back in time to when the house served as a hospital.

Confederate Sergeant Caleb Dockery lost his brother, his eye, and nearly his life. Stuck in a makeshift infirmary, he’s counting the days until he can return to duty…and seek revenge. When a stranger appears, he suspects she’s a spy. If he can’t return to duty and find the revenge he craves for his brother’s death, he can serve his country by stopping this traitor. But her nursing skills are saving lives, and her courage and independence stirs his heart. When Lena’s safety is threatened, Caleb must strain the loyalties that bind him or risk losing her forever.

Caught between a future that holds no promises and a past that could offer new life, Lena must face an extraordinary decision. Should she return to her own time where her days are numbered? Or can she and Caleb find a love that stretches across time?

If you like historical romance with a twist, strong female characters, and heroes that transcend eras, you’ll love this journey through time that tests the limits of love.

*Her Place in Time is set in the house from The Liberator Series, just prior to the start of Leveraging Lincoln. Fans of the series will enjoy seeing Annabelle and Peggy in this new novella, but it's not necessary to have read the series prior to reading the novella.

FOREVER LATELY by Linore Rose Burkard, "Time Travel" Reviewed by Paula and Trixi

PAULA'S REVIEW:
Forever Lately by Linore Rose Burkard is an unusual time-travel romance.

“It is difficult, when faced with a situation you cannot control, to admit you can do nothing. “ Lemony Snicket; “You need to be a little bit crazy. Crazy is the price you pay for having an imagination.” Ruth Ozeki; “ When you are imagining, you might as well imagine something worthwhile.” Lucy Maud Montgomery. These are some of the quotes that begin each chapter in this fantasy story. They are thought provoking and a real hoot! The chapters vary in length which makes for more enjoyable pacing.

The cover piqued my interest with its pretty silhouette of figures in Regency garb. I have always been fascinated by time travel books and movies.

For Maine author, Claire Channing, the characters in the book she is writing just won’t behave! Especially when she finds herself in a ballroom, in period clothes, in England, in 1816!

This was a sometimes funny, sometimes serious but always entertaining glimpse into Regency England through the eyes of a 21st Century woman. Thrown back in time, Claire tries to cope and make sense of things when she falls in love with Julian St. John. Funnier still is when Julian tries to figure out modern day conveniences on his trip to the future. Which era will they end up in? How will they solve this conundrum?

This story had me quickly turning pages to see how the well-drawn characters would respond the to danger confronting them. Ms. Burkard has taken a unique premise and further tuned it on its head.

Wonderful story that seemed perfectly logical to me!

TRIXI'S REVIEW:
“That was the plan, the outline she’d labored over for this new book which she called Forever, Lately. Later, when it all fell apart, Claire would wonder how she’d stumbled upon real people to inhabit her story. If she’d known they were real, she might have known, too, that they wouldn’t ever do as she planned.”

“Note to self: If characters are going to change from what the writer envisioned, they must do so early on in the writing.”

Right off the bat as soon as I read these lines, I KNEW this was going to be a fun read! How many times have I heard authors say this very thing, that their characters simply won’t cooperate? As if they completely took over the story and ripped it out of the writer’s hand, lol! I’ve never read time travel novels but I absolutely adore Regency fiction so I figured the combination of the two would be delightful.

This was so much more than I expected, in a good way, and all the plot twists keep me wondering where Burkard would take me next. I fell hard for Julian St. John at first glance and was quite jealous that Claire stole his interest. But at the same time, I loved watching from the sidelines the interactions between author and characters. It was a very interesting perspective! There were quite a few places where I couldn’t help but laugh and quite a few that I wanted to tell Miss Clarissa Andrews off. She was no lady, at least not a respectable one the way she prowled around St John trying to manipulate his affections.

The whole idea of time traveling to and living in the Regency era was intriguing; one I wished could happen for real because I’d be the first to sign up! This was a delightful adventure all around and would satisfy the heart of any Regency era fiction fan. Linore Burkard is one to keep my eye out for; she quickly became a favorite of mine! I have since added her to my list of must-read Regency authors.
