A solid trio of Christmas suspense stories.
 

Do You See What I See by Sarah Hamaker:
First time reading this author and she does a great job of putting suspense into a surprise encounter, weaving a faith thread of forgiveness and going beyond for a friend. Oakleigh has a love that shows obedience to the Golden Rule.
 

Do You Hear What I Hear by Jayna Breigh:
It is always fun to read a Jayna Brieigh story. She really conveys what is in a character’s head. Second chance with Jack is possible but only with forgiveness and compassion. It helps that Elise and Jack are searching for answers together. Legalese is understandable and enjoyable.
 

Do You Know What I Know by Kimberley Woodhouse:
A food contest with two people who are surprised to see each other. Set in Alaska and with danger cropping up, the sparks fly again for Faith and Liam as Liam seeks forgiveness and they both seek God’s will.
 

These three accomplished authors put their own expertise into three wonderful novellas. They showcase second chances, love and forgiveness in a charming and suspenseful way.

 (The Erin Delaney Mysteries Book #3): A Christian Romantic Suspense Novel with Action, Cryptic Clues, Police, and FBI Investigations

PAULA'S REVIEW:
It is always fascinating to me to see how author Nancy Mehl crafts her main characters and her villains. She presents profiler Kaely Quin-Hunter as having a unique way to ferret out the clues to an unknown subject. The author is also adept at getting into the mind of a criminal.

This time Kaely is on her way to visit Erin, another profiler, when she is kidnapped. She has to use her unusual abilities to get herself out of a very sticky situation. Back at Erin’s house, Erin, police chief Adrian and FBI agent Noah, Kaely’s husband, try to decipher the clues in poems that the kidnapper has given them. 

They are on a deadline. 

This book was exciting, using danger and a short window of time that made me use my powers of observation right along with the characters. This one was tricky because the villain was not typically evil. The side characters were well drawn and each had an important role in the story. The author was skillful at showing how Noah was feeling, trying to stay strong while focused on solving the riddle. I was impressed with the way the main characters relied on God for the outcome and took time to pray and put everything in God’s hands. 

Fatal Finale was an excellent way to end this series. Ms. Mehl has become a favorite author.

PAULA'S REVIEW:
I quickly got caught up in this intriguing story where danger was the norm. Broken Chains Ranch is the setting for an exciting adventure about an FBI agent Collin/Sully/Sullivan and his partner who are trying to protect teen Ollie before she testifies to witnessing a mob murder. On the ranch run by cousin Maya, Sully encounters Elena Thompson who helps Maya run the ranch. But Elena has secrets about her past that are about to catch up to her. 

“It awes me. That God can take our worst moments and turn them into something beautiful.” This was a great representation of a godly hero and heroine as they combat the bad guys.

I liked the cooperation between local agencies when they were up against tech savvy villains. The twists and turns kept me on my toes as I tried to figure out where the threats were coming from. 

The attraction between the main characters progressed slowly because of the proximity to danger, although danger brought out admirable qualities that advanced that attraction. Trust had to be earned. 

A fantastic start to a brand new series by a prolific writer of suspense.

This is the first book I have read by this author but it is seventh in the series and I should have read the others first. There were so many actors that it was hard for me to keep up. 

But it was an action-packed story with twists and turns and unresolved elements that will lead up to the next book. 

I found a few flaws in the text but this was an advanced copy and maybe they will be addressed in the editing. 

The story was intriguing and exciting and would be great for fans of spy games and complex plots.

As she begins to acquaint herself with a deceased colleague's client files, it becomes abundantly clear that something isn't adding up, leaving Hailey with a quandary of questions.

Security professional Peter Lewis becomes concerned when a woman working inside the building where he is employed finds her tires slashed and a threatening note on her windshield. His protective instincts signal that this is no ordinary prank, but Peter is barely acquainted with Hailey Nieland and is hesitant to intrude any further than necessary. As disturbing incidents against Hailey not only continue but escalate, Peter is pleased when she accepts his assistance, but neither is ready to acknowledge where the growing relationship may or may not advance. True to its title, this book exhibits a quiet cadence, not really accelerating until mid-point through the narrative. It's then that the puzzle pieces begin to fall in and out of place and that prayers become a primary source of strength. An enjoyable read with solid characters and silent plot twists.

I like spy stuff and this has all the tension of a James Bond Suspense flick with a touch of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, a rom-com underpinning, and a side of The Godfather. 

 
Cybil is a heroine who is a bit out of her depth but has the chops when she needs it. Ben is an irresistible hero who personifies the good guy. 

“Cybil is one part chaos, two parts pride, and I have always been just dumb enough to probe a hornet’s nest.” 

“Desperate times call for Bond level improvisation-minus the gadgets, martini and British accent.” 

A quirky character was grandma in a nursing home who was brave enough to call her FBI grandson to bail her our of jail!

Crossbones has serious subject matter sprinkled with humor to break the tension.
This series is one of my favorites. 

Ms. Warrens knows how to write an absorbing story with characters you come to lve. The relationship between Holly and her cohorts is priceless. They support her through all her many perilous adventures. They care so much for her: Jace as her best friend, Marx as her Dad figure and Jordan as her childhood friend who wants to be so much more. And let’s not forget the canine companion Riley and Sausage the cat. 

The faith of the characters is forefront in their lives and guides their actions, although they are all fallible. Even in the underbelly of New York City, Holly has a soft heart and wants to help those lost souls that she can empathize with. The danger not only effects Holly but also her best friends and they there to help her figure out the many impossible connections. These stories just keep getting better and better.  

In my estimation, this is the perfect contemporary, thriller/suspense book that takes us into the world of Holly Cross and teaches many worthwhile lessons.

Romantic Suspense Novel with a Bodyguard Love Interest

PAULA'S REVIEW:
Widow Hailey is terrified when bad things start happening. But the threats are real and put her and her deaf, toddler daughter in more danger. She is confounded when trying to figure out if the danger is coming from a disgruntled co-worker or if it is from a more far-reaching source. Ex-bodyguard and security guard at her building, Peter, comes to her aid. 

The plot was well-written with likeable main characters, scary bad guys and an interesting problem to solve that was complex and puzzling. Peter was a thoughtful, godly hero with an incident in his past that he worked around in order to protect Hailey. Hailey was determined to provide for her daughter and also to do the right and ethical thing when confronted with shady dealings. 

For those who like suspense along with romance and a solid faith thread, this is the ideal story.

Every time I think JJ Samie Myles can’t possibly top herself, she does. Again. I absolutely loved this book. Ledger is everything you want in a hero. He is strong, loyal, completely swoon-worthy, and full of unending faith. He and Rox together are pure perfection.

I’ve loved Ariel and Ledger since book one, and getting more of their relationship, history, and sibling dynamic was everything I hoped for. And as always, the faith thread was woven in so beautifully. It is thought-provoking, meaningful, and quote-worthy. I highlighted so much.

The team is one of my favorite parts of this series. The camaraderie, the banter, and the humor balance the intense action perfectly. The pacing is spot on, the suspense kept me glued to the pages, and the characters are so well written you can’t help but root for every single one of them.

And yes… I cried. There are some truly emotional moments in this book, and they hit hard because the writing is so powerful. You don’t just read what the characters are feeling, you feel it with them.

The more I read about this team, the more I love them. I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Honestly, for anything Ms. Myles writes. This is officially my favorite book in the series, which I didn’t think was possible after Elusive Evil.

If you love romantic suspense, stop what you’re doing and read JJ Samie Myles. You will not regret it.

In this follow-up to The Crown Conspiracy, the Speranza secret society is at it again with more fast-paced action. Camille Abernathy and her friends are after artifacts that combine mystery and danger with a treasure hunt. Many are after The Liar’s Treasure, but only the worthy can win. And the ones who seek only know that it is something very valuable. 

In this complicated, high-octane plot, the team is jetting across the world to put all the pieces together. Camille, her daughter and grandmother are caught in the middle. Lucien Broussard, best friend of her dead husband, comes on the scene to help the ladies in their quest. Could Lucien become more than an old friend, as he also is looking for the treasure. Time was of the essence. Camille Abernathy, along with the other members of her elite secret Speranza team are tasked with locating what was known throughout the world of treasure hunters as "the liar's treasure"; items dating back centuries, believed to hold the power of discernment, delivering a death sentence upon those deemed as disingenuous. The stakes become exponentially higher when Camille's daughter innocently exposes one of the items, putting herself squarely in the crosshairs of international villains.

Help arrives in a variety of ways; putting "feet to her faith", learning that there is more to a beloved grandmother than meets the eye, and trusting someone from her past whom Camille desperately wants to believe has her best interests at heart, and there is certainly a tremendous amount of heart beating inside Lucien Broussard.

This impressive story reads like an action film on steroids, a blend of National Treasure meets Raiders of the Lost Ark. The plot is complex but comprehensible, the heroines are strong, courageous and skilled in their areas of expertise, and although the hero may not grab the spotlight very often, when he does . . . it's a sight to behold. An altogether thrilling addition to what every reader will "hope" is an ongoing series.

After being shuffled to safety, county detective Braden Sanders becomes involved in the case. Unbeknownst to Cressida, Braden knows more about her and her reason for visiting Hidden Bay than he lets on.

Working hard to discover the answers that her father had been unable to ferret out about the infamous Specter's Bounty, Cressida is yet to talk to anyone who has the kind of reliable information that she seeks, in fact, she gets warned off time and time again. A mysterious ghost ship, long buried secrets, and a quest to find the truth bring Cressida Valentine and County Deputy Braden Sanders together.
 

Braden is tasked with protecting Cressida by her estranged mother Octavia Dane, who is an influential government figure. In exchange Octavia holds the acess to a life giving drug that his niece needs.
 

The atmosphere of a rugged coast in Washington state sets the stage for a mesmerizing story.
 

Cressida is trying to complete a book her father started before his death about maritime shipwrecks. But as she tries to find out more about Specter’s Bounty, she hits nothing but roadblocks and several attempts on her life. Deputy Braden investigates and grows closer to her. But he has secrets to keep too.
 

Many complicated connections, interesting side characters and a mystery that could have deadly consequences make this a fantastic story that was hard to put down. Thorny spiritual questions plague the characters such as: when is it right to keep information from someone, and how is it possible to forgive when a person is hurt so badly. The author handled those situations with grace.
 

A top read, for sure.
