What a fun trio of stories from the late 1880s!
The Bridal Shop
I loved visiting Charleston and King Street where Alice has her shop. She is a strong woman who has overcome much. Giles is also hard working and would rather play tennis but chooses to honor his obligations. This was a sweet romance with obstacles of disapproving relatives and a few pasts to hide or overcome. I like the lyrical prose and descriptions of the bridal shop, playing tennis and life on the river.
Miss Beaumont’s Companion
Sweet romance with a Cyrano vibe. A masquerade ball and a companion to a rich spoiled girl. But the tables turn and the upright lawyer does the right thing instead of what his politically minded father wants. Great story.
The Becoming of Miss Blanche
A Harvey Girl story with breathtaking setting of the Montezuma resort in Las Vegas. I like the way the author weaves real historical events into the story. A patient and caring but brave hero, a determined heroine, both with a solid faith are well developed characters. The contrast between good and evil is well written.
Ms. Hitchcock is a reliable and relatable author in my favorite historical genre.
*I received a complimentary ecopy from the author. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*5 stars and an underlying faith thread
