"Still, the color of that stone, that sapphire blue, is and always will be my favorite - the shade and depth and power of which can never, as you suggested, be truly captured in words but must be felt deeply in the soul, as you felt the northern lights that night."
Favorite colors. They were exchanging pleasantries, but on a much deeper level than their words suggested. Inch by inch, paragraph by paragraph, Lia and Tane were sharing who they were, really were, since both of them were shrouded within a world that only saw who they portrayed themselves to be, underneath well honed stealth and disguise. It was a chance encounter that began their correspondence, and even now continued under a cloak of misunderstanding. . . borderline pretense . . . because Tane's occupation was so dangerous that bringing Lia's light anywhere near his darkness could get them both killed.
Such an unusual sort of story in many ways, but that's what I really liked about it. Captivating? Yes. Suspenseful? Absolutely. Romantic? Quite. Unnerving? Of course. Inspiring? From beginning to end. Assuring? On the Word of God, for nothing can separate us from His love. We are never alone.
"Here is what I have learned in life: we are not meant to be on our own. We are created to connect - truly connect - with God and with at least one other person."
*I purchased this book and was under no obligation to provide a positive review.
