"The twitch of her finger on the trigger sent the bullet into the base of his throat."
Adam Williams was dead. She had shot him herself. It had come to that. So why is her ex-fiance peering over the edge of a mountain roadside after bumping her car off the highway? Physician Assistant Lainie Jackson survived the accident in a lot better shape than her car, but the entire incident was more than strange, it was creepy. Never mind, it gets worse.
Detective James Cross has returned home following a career in the Army, honorably discharged from the Criminal Investigation Division and newly employed with the Lake City Police Department. When he ends up in the Emergency Room after a domestic dispute call, as the attending physician, Lainie Jackson is reminded of all the reasons why she had crushed on her best friend's older brother as a young teen. Taking advantage of his listening ear, Lainie recounts her recent sighting of a man who was dead and buried eighteen months prior. Kindly, James offers to use his medical time off to help Lainie figure out what is going on; obviously someone is playing mind games with Lainie. The question is . . . why? Or . . . has there been a resurrection?
Jeepers. Creepers. How in the world was this story going to end? Such a meticulous plot line, there wasn't a minute to spare for the characters to enjoy much cozy time, that's for sure; Lainie and James were too busy dodging bullets and chasing shadows. All the leads. All the "dead" ends. All the while . . . . I kept turning pages.
"God, give me strength . . . No, be my strength. Please."
