Rebekah Millet has brought the color and flavor of New Orleans to life in her new book, Kate Landry Has a Plan, the second in her Beignets for Two series. The characters are engaging, realistic, and sometimes quirky, and the tale is fun and humorous. Kate Landry is an independent, plucky, plan-oriented lady who has sworn off men after a long-term relationship resulted in a broken engagement. She is raising her niece, after Hayley was orphaned as a toddler. When Kate’s old friend and crush, Micah Guidry, returns to town and takes a job as a librarian, her carefully planned future is upset.

With a heap of humor and wit, and a good dose of inspiration, this story is entertaining and easy-to-read. I liked the message that sometimes God’s plans are much better than the ones we have for ourselves.

This novel was packed full of goodies: an absorbing plot, a handsome detective, a forward thinking heroine, a clever but diabolical villain and spiritual lessons that make you think.
 

Lydia Pelton has published dime novel crime fiction under a pseudonym. All to bring justice to the victims whose perpetrators have gone free. But someone is out for vengeance and is using information in her novels to murder the villains. He is bringing fiction to life in the worst way.
 

This is by no means a dark tale because the author tempers it with witty banter, a blossoming romance and shows the faith journey of the two main characters.
 

Lydia dubs Abraham “Detective Darcy and we see into her writer brain: “Abraham was the hero she’d never dared to write- but real life rarely lived up to fiction.” The author depicts an authentic repentance when Lydia confesses to her father about her secret writing. And Abraham and Lydia encourage each other in Godly things.
 

This was a delightful story and I am awaiting the next book in this series.

What a fantastic debut for Jayna Breigh.
 

This book has it all. Flawed, but redeemable hero and heroine, a problematic puzzle to solve, and a grandma who imparts, godly wisdom every chance she gets. Pair that with a fake engagement, turned to a steady, swoony romance, and you have a winning plot that does not disappoint. I love the heroine, Nona, who is dealing with guilt, but seeks to atone for a wrong that caused grief. Along comes a lawyer, and ex jock DeMarcus, who makes his spiritual journey back to God with the help of memories of his grandma, and her spouting scripture for every occasion.
 

The mystery that Nona helps Pastor Grant solve, delves into interesting genealogy, and there is a plot to grab his inheritance. The story takes a lot of turns, but the pieces all fit together very nicely.
 

I loved this book and cannot wait to see what this author comes up with next.

An Uplifting Inspirational Romance (Hope Crossing, 6)

Rediscovering Christmas by talented author Mindy Obenhaus is charming and sweet with realistic, relatable, and engaging characters. I love small-town stories with friendly, helpful, and compassionate townspeople, and this tale is filled with them. It opens with seemingly the last straw for Tori Stallings as her home burns down after she has lost her husband and parents. She and her small son move in with her mother-in-law and brother-in-law, but she has lost her faith in God and his goodness. Her brother-in-law, Micah, is a big help to Tori and her son Aiden and will do most anything to help them. He and Tori have been friends for a long time, and he doesn’t want to do anything to damage their relationship. Aiden is adorable and such a delightful addition to the tale.

This is a Love Inspired Christian fiction book, and, as such, has a strong faith thread. Tori’s faith journey is quite prominent in it. Obenhaus has incorporated it into the story seamlessly, and the Christmas theme goes well with it. It’s part of the Hope Crossing series, but it can easily be read alone. I recommend this author and book to those who enjoy clean, faith-filled entertaining stories.

Welcome back to the Haverly universe where a few privileged aristocrats work undercover to keep the crown and country safe. If you are a fan of Ms. Vetsch and her Regency books, you will be thrilled to immerse yourself in this story.

Bertram Thorndike has a new assignment: to change his persona and track down missing jewels that were stolen from the Prince Regent. In addition he is asked to be on the board of a charity for fallen women run by Phillipa Cashel and Dorothy Stokes. As the story progresses, there are hints of a romance between Bertie and Phillipa.

The author depicts the flavor of the Regency era and brings depth and warmth to her characters. The plot was mesmerizing, intriguing and mystifying. Just as Bertie thinks he has a lead on the case, another obstacle appears. He needs to prove himself before all is lost.

I was pleased to reconnect with characters from previous books, especially Daniel Swann who gives Bertie sound advice.
The themes of second chances, redemption, the consequences of bitterness, forgiveness and a clear gospel message were laced throughout the story. “Grace and forgiveness are a gift from God. Not something we earn.”

I am anxious to see what is on the horizon for Bertie and Phillipa in the next book.

They Turned the World Upside Down:A Storyteller's Journey with Those Who Dared to Follow Jesus
"They saw a dead man walk. And they believed. And they did."

Sound sincerely simplified? Maybe. Sound genuinely profound? Absolutely.

If you choose to read this book out of curiosity, you probably won't make it past the prologue, for "They Turned the World Upside Down" is a gut-wrenching, life-changing tutorial- turned- testimony of what it means to "believe in", not "about" the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And if you do, what does it mean?

For, "Unbelief turned over nothing. Unbelief healed no one. Unbelief delivered no one." It begs the question; "what exactly do you believe"? Would you have built an ark? (Noah) Or would you have been willing to sacrifice your one and only son? (Abraham) Or, bringing it closer to home . . . . would you forgive the undeserving, pray for the healing of another up until the point of death, believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to work miracles, cast out demons, overcome strongholds? The Trouble With Love is a fabulous introduction to Toni Shiloh’s new Christian Chick Lit series, Faith and Fortune.  Humor, romance, friendship, and even a bit of suspense…this book has something for everyone. 

In The Trouble With Love, pop star Holiday Brown shares a house in Manhattan with two of her famous friends, Tori and Octavia.  When Tori’s brother Emmett stays with them during his house renovations, Holiday and Emmett’s longtime apparent dislike for each other takes a surprising turn.

Toni Shiloh brings a needed diversity to Christian fiction, and her writing style is very appealing to readers. Typically, I am not a fan of first-person point of view, but Toni Shiloh absolutely nails it!  In choosing to write in first-person point of view, she shares a unique insight into the heroine’s thoughts and feelings with readers.  Even though Holiday, Tori, and Octavia are all famous and wealthy, they have insecurities and struggles that readers can easily relate to. 

Toni Shiloh’s writing is rich with beautiful messages of faith, including a developing romance with two wonderful characters at varying stages of their own spiritual journeys.  The author shares the powerful message of God’s love for us. 

The Trouble With Love is highly recommended for readers of inspirational fiction.  The cliffhanger at the end of the novel has me eager to read The Truth About Fame, book two in the Faith & Fortune series, which releases in July 2020.

With non-stop action and gripping suspense, author Darlene L. Turner pens an intense tale of corruption and drug smuggling across the border.  In Darlene L. Turner’s debut novel, Border Breach, Canadian law enforcement and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) join forces to take down a drug smuggling operation that is operating between the U.S. and Canada. 

Handsome police constable Hudson Steeves and CBSA officer Kaylin Poirier are instructed to work together to stop a drug smuggling ring.  Their assignment comes at a high price as they immediately become targets and attempts on their lives threaten to derail the investigation.
