Christ
be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
--From St. Patrick's Breastplate, translated by Cecil Frances Alexander, 1889
That is a lovely description of the believer's life. All around us there is death but in Him there is life.
ReplyDeletethanks Susie.
One of my favorite Breastplate prayers - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Susie. A simple, yet blessed reminder.
ReplyDeleteI like St Patrick, and Im not even Irish. Has anyone read his 'confession'?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, everyone.
ReplyDeleteAnna, I have a bit of Irish in me...but not much. Nevertheless, I'm fond of St. Patrick! He was an amazing evangelist. I have not read his entire confession, though.
Interesting. I've never heard of a Breastplate prayer. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Anita! Breastplate prayers are a Celtic tradition--they're worthy of a post to themselves!
