GENTLEMAN JIM by Mimi Matthews, Blog Tour and Reviews from Winnie and Deb

WINNIE'S REVIEW:
With her typical skill and creativity, Mimi Matthews has penned another riveting and entertaining tale with her new book, Gentleman Jim. Set in Regency England and full of colorful, layered characters that come alive on the page, this story kept me guessing and turning pages to the end.

The two main characters are superb. Maggie Honeywell is a spunky, courageous, and loyal heroine. I was immediately drawn to her audacious personality. Viscount St. Clare is a bold, courageous hero who is determined to restore his family’s honor and maybe get a little revenge along the way. The villain, Frederick Burton-Smythe, made me want to boo and hiss every time he made an appearance.

Packed with adventure, intrigue, suspense, heart-pounding romance, and with some humor and witty banter thrown in for good measure, this tale is sure to please those who enjoy captivating Regency stories.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

DEB'S REVIEW:
Let me preface my review with ‘I normally don’t write reviews’. What I do instead is tell you how much I liked a book. When the opportunity to host the Gentleman Jim blog tour came along, I was glad to join in. I hadn’t read the book yet. What if I didn’t like it? But… what were the chances of that? I’ve read every Mimi Matthews book I could find and have many of them in audio. If you haven’t noticed, she’s pretty darn popular. Because she writes great stories.

Gentleman Jim is no exception. Ms. Matthews’ stories dwell in perfectly drawn, immersive settings. The language, the social norms, clothing…every detail. Her characters are always compelling and you don’t want to part from them. And the stories are ‘clean’ in the Austen manner. In fact, if you know hand-holding can be swoony-sexy, go buy the book.

This story works so well with its ‘lovers torn apart’ story line, that I could ignore the little voice of doubt (suspending disbelief is so important for a transporting experience) on one particular issue. No spoilers here. It works because we want it to. Because leaving the current world behind to spend time in Somerset and London in the early 1800s is exactly what you need to do!

You’ll see in a quick perusal of any Gentleman Jim review that our hero/heroine are separated not just by a mean guy and bad luck, but later by all the overwhelming obstacles of proper society. It makes for the most wonderful conflict and keeps us turning the pages. Will they get together? (what do you think…) Will they keep you glued to the story while they manage it? Absolutely. *I was provided an ebook for review with no obligation to provide a positive review.

BackCover Blurb:
She Couldn't Forget...
Wealthy squire's daughter Margaret Honeywell was always meant to marry her neighbor, Frederick Burton-Smythe, but it's bastard-born Nicholas Seaton who has her heart. Raised alongside her on her father's estate, Nicholas is the rumored son of notorious highwayman Gentleman Jim. When Fred frames him for theft, Nicholas escapes into the night, vowing to find his legendary sire. But Nicholas never returns. A decade later, he's long been presumed dead.

He Wouldn't Forgive...
After years spent on the continent, John Beresford, Viscount St. Clare has finally come home to England. Tall, blond, and dangerous, he's on a mission to restore his family's honor. If he can mete out a bit of revenge along the way, so much the better. But he hasn't reckoned for Maggie Honeywell. She's bold and beautiful--and entirely convinced he's someone else.

As danger closes in, St. Clare is torn between love and vengeance. Will he sacrifice one to gain other? Or, with a little daring, will he find a way to have them both?
