A STRANGER'S GAME by Colleen Coble, Reviewed by Rebecca Maney

"Real life is worth the risk."

Slipping into one of her father's high end hotels under an alias, Victoria Bergstrom presumes her mission . . . to find out the truth about her best friend's death. Not for a minute did Torie believe that Lisbeth had committed suicide, even though the evidence seemed to point in that direction. When she meets the man who discovered the body along a Jekyll Island, Georgia beach, Joe Abbott, Torie is inclined to view Joe as an ally, possibly even a friend. But life has taught Torie to be wary, to guard her emotions, to rely on no one but herself, except that after multiple threats to her safety and security on the island, Torie is growing weary of facing evil intentions on her own.

"God judged it better to bring good out of evil than to suffer no evil to exist." - St. Augustine
This is an interesting story with the predictable sorts of twists and turns that keep the reader on his or her toes, but that's just it . . . in this case, predictable felt a bit bereft of depth. On the flip side, who doesn't love a good dose of suspense, when the "who-done-its" keep skillfully out of sight, or do they? It's a "stranger's game"!

BackCover Blurb:
This gripping new novel from USA TODAY bestselling romantic suspense author Colleen Coble will leave you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

A wealthy hotel heiress.

Even though Torie Bergstrom hasn’t been back to Georgia since she was ten, she’s happy to arrange a job for her best friend at one of the family properties on Jekyll Island.

A suspicious death.

But when Torie learns that her best friend has drowned, she knows it is more than a tragic accident: Lisbeth was terrified of water and wouldn’t have gone swimming by choice.

A fight for the truth.

Torie goes to the hotel under an alias, desperate to find answers. When she meets Joe Abbott and his daughter rescuing baby turtles, she finds a tentative ally.

The more Torie and Joe dig, the more elusive the truth seems. One thing is clear: someone will risk anything—even more murder—to keep their secrets buried.
