The Wright Heroes of Maine Book 8

REBECCA'S REVIEW:
"Who was the pretty lady?"

Noah Aylett's business driven lifestyle was upended the moment his wayward brother deposited a four year old daughter into Noah's care. Facing a particularly crucial crossroads involving a lucrative merger for his family's tech company, Noah decides to hire a live-in nanny to care for his precious Charlie-Bear during the daytime hours. Imagine his surprise when a lovely young woman knocks on his door.

Delaney Wright is determined to make a life for herself without the help of her family or their money. Upon arrival in a quaint coastal Virginia community, she seeks employment based on her vast experience as a nanny. After being summarily dismissed from the Aylett estate, Delaney is plagued with doubts about her decision to leave home, when a chance encounter in a local park brings her back to the attention of Noah Aylett.

Sounds like a sweet contemporary romance, right? On one level it certainly is exactly that. However, rumbling beneath the surface are multiple unseen fissures just waiting to crack wide open, challenging everything and everyone that Noah and Delaney have come to hold dear.

"A woman was standing on the sidewalk. She held a handgun - aimed at Delaney."

An Uplifting Inspirational Romance (Home to Foxtail Book 3)

WINNIE'S REVIEW:
It was a delight to journey back to Foxtail Farm and join the Dalton family in the quest to save their farm. When rancher Thatcher Dalton suddenly needs to find a wife to keep his inheritance at the same time Bliss Anderson loses her job, it seems like too good of a coincidence to miss. Bliss needs stability to go through with her adoption of her foster daughter, and Thatcher can offer that to them. Thatcher and Bliss are engaging and relatable, and foster daughter Juniper and her dog Coco are adorable. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and seeing their relationships grow and change.

Themes of family, faith, trust, and hope add inspiration and depth to the story and enhanced my enjoyment of it. It is well-written with a lovely cast of endearing characters. This is a sweet, clean, and charming contemporary romance that is sure to entertain and warm your heart.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

PAULA'S REVIEW:
A contemporary, marriage-of-convenience story when Thrasher is virtually forced to marry Bliss. When the terms of his uncle’s will stipulate that a wedding must take place or the Foxtail Farms property is in jeopardy for Thatcher and his three cousins, Thrasher proposes to Bliss. The arrangement benefits Bliss because then she can complete the process to adopt her foster girl Juniper.

It was interesting to see how the characters put their faith to work as they prayed, seeking God’s will in these unique situations. Of course the purely business arrangement turns romantic as Bliss and Thatcher learn about each other, seeing the good and the difficult and choosing to work through the problems. Juniper and her service dog, Coco, added depth and explained about epilepsy and working animals.

If you have been following the cousins and how they are dealing with inheriting Foxtail Farms, some of the why is revealed in this story. A few questions are answered about the will and stipulations.

This story had a great plot with well drawn characters and a heartwarming romance.

I am looking forward to more stories about Foxtail Farms.

THE PASTOR'S EASTER PRAYER by Tina Radcliffe, Reviewed by Kim #ReleaseDay

An Uplifting Inspirational Romance (Tumbleweed, Texas, Book 2)

KIM'S REVIEW:
The Pastor’s Easter Prayer by Tina Radcliffe is a sweet Texas-set romance that will make you long for small-town living. I loved the strong sense of community and how everyone genuinely cared for and supported one another.

At its heart, this story is also about forgiveness—learning to forgive yourself -and of letting go of the need to control every detail of life, but mostly it’s about trusting God with everything.

Rob and Hannah’s relationship is steady, tender, and develops naturally, making their journey enjoyable to follow.

The secondary characters add so much warmth to the story, particularly Luna, who is a wonderful and supportive friend to Hannah. Hanna’s boys added the perfect touch to round out this cast of characters!

Tina Radcliffe is one of my favorite authors. I’m already looking forward to whatever she writes next! 4 stars!

A K-9 TO REUNITE THEM by Jill Kemerer, Reviewed by Trixi and Winnie #ReleaseDay

An Uplifting Inspirational Romance (K-9 Companions Book 42)

TRIXI'S REVIEW:
As the book description alludes to, Seth and Caroline know each other from the past but tragedy separated them both. This takes place twelve years later with the added layer of young Nina, Caroline’s five-year-old daughter who was recently diagnosed with diabetes. With her fierce independence and tenacity, she is raising her as a single mom. Though sometimes that independence gets in the way of relationships, whether family or love interests. Seth is understandably wary of getting involved with Caroline again… “once burnt, twice shy” as they say. Only because of Nina does he agree to train a medical alert dog for her.

This story is emotional, at least it was for me! I can relate to a lot of what Caroline goes through as a mom, the constant worry about your kids (though mine didn’t have serious medical conditions) and being overly controlling or overbearing. I had to laugh and shake my head at myself because I would do or say the exact thing she would in the situations she found herself in. What I appreciated the most was the author included some Biblical tips that Caroline found online to help with stress and the need to always be in control of everything. I actually wrote them down so I can refer back to them when I need to remind myself! The character growth for both Caroline and Seth was amazing, they had a whole lot of past hurts to deal with. With God’s help, the love of family and Godly advice, they were able to overcome those hurts. I’m a sap for the happily-ever-after at the end of the book, and I thought Kememer tied it all up in a very satisfying way. And of course, the K-9 companion dogs (Spud and Liverwurst) added the cuteness factor to sweeten this up even more… I mean, look at that adorable cover!

When it comes to heartwarming stories that stir your emotions and soul, deepen your faith, and satisfy you at the end, you don’t have to go any further than books by Jill Kemerer!
*I received an advanced digital copy of this book from the author. My review is posted voluntarily.*

WINNIE'S REVIEW:
Although it is part of the K-9 Companions series, A K-9 to Reunite Them can be read as a stand-alone book. The books in the series are written by different authors, and Jill Kemerer is one of my favorites. With a second-chances trope, a cast of engaging and realistic characters, and a plot that drew me in immediately, this story is a delightful and charming read. Seth Hudson has moved back to small-town Fairview, Wyoming to start a dog-boarding center after spending several years training service dogs. When Caroline Bright moves back to town and asks him to train a service dog for her small daughter Nina who has diabetes, Seth can’t refuse, although he wants nothing to do with Caroline who broke his heart years ago.

I loved the compassion and empathy that Seth showed Caroline and Nina, although he had reason to refuse his help. Caroline impressed me with her love and care of her adopted daughter. She was willing to do hard things to give Nina the best life possible. I enjoyed learning more about service dogs and their training. The author had obviously done much research into the subject. The tale is well-written, clean and wholesome, and features themes of forgiveness, trust, and hope.

A Gripping Small-Town Romance of Faith, Danger, and a Love Worth Fighting For \

(Coastal Hope Book 1)

REBECCA'S REVIEW
"I only hope I can figure out what brought her here before it's too late."

Eliza Pierce had driven across the country planning to keep her head down, spend a lot of time on the beach, forget about the past, and look forward to a future without her overbearing, abusive husband; in a word, freedom! Against all odds, Eliza is immediately thrust into circumstances beyond her control and practically forced to rely on the first man who came across her path, Lance Riley; who arrived to install her hot water heater and caught the unfortunate ire of the town's newest resident.

When the woman with whom he got off on the wrong foot shows up at his private security firm, Lance attempts to exert the art of diplomacy to smooth over Eliza's lingering hostility. She is obviously scared out of her wits, but just stubborn enough to resist his help, until whoever is surveilling her turns up the heat, sending her back to his office for assistance. Lance is convinced that the beautiful divorcee has been placed in his path for a reason, God has made that very clear. What isn't so certain is whether or not he can keep her safe, the person they are trying to locate is as evasive as a ghost.

Taut romantic tension begins building in this story the very moment that Lance's big white truck pulls up to Eliza's vintage lighthouse home. Mix those sorts of emotions with those generated by a creepy, crawly stalker and you have the perfect recipe for a thrilling romantic suspense. What makes this plotting so incredibly special is the gentle way in which Lance shares God's truths with this broken and battered woman whose heart is exceedingly thirsty for everlasting love.

Readers will enjoy every moment spent with this story!

A DEEPER WELL by Jill Eileen Smith, Reviewed by Paula #ReleaseDay

Ancient Historical Biblical Fiction Retelling of the Woman at the Well, for Fans of The Chosen

PAULA'S REVIEW:
Based on the Biblical story of the Samaritan Woman at the well, the author draws on research into the customs of the day and area. While the Samaritans were separated from the Jews, they worshiped the same God and carried many of the same traditions. This story starts out as Nessa, claimed to be the most beautiful woman in Sychar, has just become of marriageable age and has to abide by her father’s decisions. She is painted as a victim of the times, being given in marriage to several men who either died or had her put away. The author made me care for Nessa and sympathize with the situations she was experiencing.

The redemption comes when Jesus travels with his disciples to Jacob’s Well. The story shows how much Jesus cares for the individual. Nessa has had many husbands but has never found a man who loves her for who she really is. Jesus shows her just such love even though He reveals her sins to her. I like that the author expands a bit on the story when the Samaritans ask Jesus to stay with them for two days. She postulates that He taught them through parables which seems entirely possible.

Nessa’s repentance causes her to joyfully tell her whole community about Jesus. Her surrender to God’s will results in something far better than the consequences of her past.

The author deftly portrayed how Nessa was bound in sin and tradition and how she was lifted up when she listened to the Master’s voice.

Her broken heart thirsts for acceptance and love that seem out of reach--until an encounter at the well reveals what her soul truly longs for.

In ancient Israel, soon after Nessa is of marriageable age, her father gives her to a wealthy widowed friend, capitalizing on her beauty to bring in the highest bride-price he can find. Nessa is devastated, as she had begged to marry Lavi, who returned her love and saw more in her than her appearance. Nessa's betrothal leads to Lavi's departure, compounding her grief, and she can never forget her forbidden first love.

Nessa tries to accept her fate, but after only a year of marriage, tragedy hits her new family. She is sent back to her father, who quickly finds a young man who wants to marry the most beautiful woman in Sychar. Misfortune follows Nessa as she is passed from one marriage to the next--until she meets an unusual Jewish rabbi at the town's well one afternoon, and her life is forever changed.

Jill Eileen Smith weaves a historically and biblically rich narrative of the New Testament story of the woman at the well. Bringing a fresh perspective of faith and redemption, this biblical-era fiction is perfect for fans of Mesu Andrews, Tessa Afshar, and
The Chosen.

TAMING LADY TEMPERANCE by Karen Witemeyer, Reviewed by Rebecca, Winnie, and Paula #ReleaseDay

(The Secret Society of Spinsters Book #1):
A Christian Opposites Attract Frontier Western Historical Romance with Cowboys

REBECCA'S REVIEW:
"That man and his obnoxious charm. Good grief. She'd almost shared a smile with him."

Self declared independent woman, active member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, and recent recruit to the Secret Society of Spinsters, Noreen O'Sullivan doesn't have time to be making eyes at the handsome deputy sheriff of Albany, Texas, who has just bodily removed her (very politely, of course) from her temperance campaign in front of the local saloon. If she was being honest with herself, it had probably been a good idea, since the proprietor of the Salt Fork Saloon was getting a bit, shall we say, "salty"?

Deputy James Paxton takes his job as keeper of the peace very seriously, but the sassy Miss O'Sullivan is as pretty as a picture and stubborn as a mule. If he can just convince her to go about her public campaigning a little differently, oh, who he is kidding?

When James is forced to make a tricky decision, he and the purpose driven Miss O'Sullivan end up spending some unexpected time together, forcing them both to rethink priorities. Will it be enough?

What did I love most about this book? Virtually everything. The clever setting, the sparks of instantaneous attraction, the extraordinary word flow (I read all but 50 pages in one sitting) the deep spiritual truths, and of course the wit! . . . always the wit!

A perfectly delightful and engaging western romance!
*I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from the publisher, the opinions stated above are entirely my own.

WINNIE'S REVIEW:
“She’d grown lax of late. Hadn’t protested in nearly three weeks.”

“He couldn’t afford to let her out-stubborn him.”

With a setting in Texas in 1894, a heroine who is bound and determined to defend the cause of prohibition, and a deputy who is hoping to be elected sheriff and wants to keep the peace, what could possibly go wrong?

I’m always delighted to read another Karen Witemeyer story, and Taming Lady Temperance lived up to my anticipation. This first book in The Secret Society of Spinsters is full of well-drawn, multi-layered, and realistically flawed characters, and the story line caught my attention quickly.

The main characters, Noreen O’Sullivan and Deputy James Paxton, are engaging and entertaining. Noreen is independent, headstrong, and spunky. Dependable and upstanding James is just the person to keep her in check. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between them and the signature wit and humor Witemeyer injects into her stories. I found myself chuckling and laughing out loud at some of the pictures that were evoked.

“. . . this woman was on a mission. A mission that apparently involved him. He swallowed and steeled himself for what was to come. The tenacity he’d just admitted to admiring was about to bury its teeth into his leg, and he wasn’t at all certain he’d be able to shake free.”

“That man and his obnoxious charm. Good grief. She’d almost shared a smile with him. Thankfully, she’d stopped herself in time.”

It was satisfying to see the relationship between Noreen and James change as they interacted and began to get to know each other better. I loved the way they were able to work together and solve problems, even as they were exasperating each other.

“He might not have to worry about Noreen O'Sullivan ruining his chances to be elected sheriff, after all. Apparently, he was perfectly capable of blackening public opinion of his fitness for office all on his lonesome.”

“Her hackles had been raised, and he was bound to get jabbed by a few of them before this was over.”

With plenty of action, intrigue, inspiration, and romance, this book kept me turning the pages. The stellar cast of secondary characters added much to the tale, and I’m hoping that some of the Spinster Society sisters will get their own stories soon.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Bethany House. All opinions are my own.

PAULA'S REVIEW:
Karen Witemeyer is back at it again. This time with a determined heroine Noreen, The Temperance Terror! In Albany, Texas when women were marching against the evils of alcohol, Noreen takes up the cause. Based on her background, she has seen the results from overindulgence.

Filled with humor and witty banter and a heroine who puts everything on the line for what she believes in, there is also Deputy James Paxton who must uphold the law even when the girl who catches his eye tends to break it!

“I won’t be placated, Deputy Paxton. And I won’t succumb to your charms, so aim that smile of yours elsewhere.” “But James found her fascinating as well. Hard not to with all that passion zinging around beneath her surface.”

James has his work cut out for him when he encounters the feisty Noreen, while at the same time trying to appease the other inhabitants of the town. James is the perfect foil for Noreen as he dispenses godly wisdom with his steady demeanor.

Join the ladies of The Secret Society of Spinsters as they try to reform their little town in 1894. A totally enjoyable read with faith lessons, some excitement and a sweet romance.

Action-Filled Christian Romantic Suspense with Mystery and Adventure

REBECCA'S REVIEW:

"International. An abandoned salvage ship. Murders. Cressida's father and his research."

Everything in Cressida Dane's life revolved around finishing her deceased father's manuscript, leaving her with just one one additional unresolved shipwreck tale to unravel. Arriving in Hidden Bay seemed fairly innocuous at first, but she had barely put one foot in front of the other on its sandy beach when she was attacked and presumed dead by her assailant. After being shuffled to safety, county detective Braden Sanders becomes involved in the case. Unbeknownst to Cressida, Braden knows more about her and her reason for visiting Hidden Bay than he lets on.

Working hard to discover the answers that her father had been unable to ferret out about the infamous Specter's Bounty, Cressida is yet to talk to anyone who has the kind of reliable information that she seeks, in fact, she gets warned off time and time again. Equally as confused, Braden cannot piece together why he has been tagged to protect the daughter of a high level government bureaucrat, knowing that Cressida will be furious when she discovers what her mother has done . . . again.

Fighting a tight time schedule, this plot begins rapidly and maintains a brisk pace, even for the characters. Fans of the series will be delighted to learn more about the life of Evelyn Monroe, an enigmatic character with a generous heart. Meanwhile, Cressida and Braden will be discovering anew how to trust and forgive, because their hearts desperately long for something lasting, even amidst the ever present deadly currents.

PAULA'S REVIEW:
A mysterious ghost ship, long buried secrets, and a quest to find the truth bring Cressida Valentine and County Deputy Braden Sanders together.

Braden is tasked with protecting Cressida by her estranged mother Octavia Dane, who is an influential government figure. In exchange Octavia holds the acess to a life giving drug that his niece needs.

The atmosphere of a rugged coast in Washington state sets the stage for a mesmerizing story.

Cressida is trying to complete a book her father started before his death about maritime shipwrecks. But as she tries to find out more about Specter’s Bounty, she hits nothing but roadblocks and several attempts on her life. Deputy Braden investigates and grows closer to her. But he has secrets to keep too.

Many complicated connections, interesting side characters and a mystery that could have deadly consequences make this a fantastic story that was hard to put down. Thorny spiritual questions plague the characters such as: when is it right to keep information from someone, and how is it possible to forgive when a person is hurt so badly. The author handled those situations with grace.

A top read, for sure.

WHERE STILLNESS SPEAKS by Chelsey Welwood, Reviewed by Rebecca Maney

A Historical Christian Romance of Courage and Unexpected Love

REBECCA'S REVIEW:
"Tomorrow night, will be the last you see of me . . . mark my words."

Audra Bancroft fled quietly and quickly into the night, disguised as a young man, desperate to put miles between herself and the despicable man whom her uncle declared would be her husband. Arriving in a small Indiana town, she fell upon the good graces of the Haystead family matriarch who offered her refuge on their farm, never asking too many questions. The elder Haystead son was not so accommodating, suspicious of Audra's intentions, and skeptical about her past. On the other hand, the younger siblings, befriended Audra immediately and with the passing of time, Audra dropped her guard long enough to begin to feel at home within the tight-knit community. That proved to be a mistake.

When trouble comes calling, in the heat of the moment Audra's false declaration forges Tobias Haystead into unintended territory and creates a series of complicated circumstances that neither of them would have chosen or could have foreseen.

There is a gentle cadence to this story. As sweet and predictable as it was in some places, it was also as courageous and determined as the heroine herself in others. Would that we would all listen to the gentle, quiet voice of the Spirit when we need Him the most; thankfully, Audra learned to tune her heart in that direction.

No one who reads this book will be able to resist reading the next! What an ending to this lovely, romantic debut!

WHITEOUT by Dani Pettrey and Lynette Eason, Reviewed by Paula Shreckhise

An Action Adventure Thriller Romantic Suspense 2-in-1 Novella Collection
Set at Colorado Ski Resort

PAULA'S REVIEW:
These books were so good it only took me a day to read them.

Buried in Shadows by Dani Pettrey:
A group of friends go to a resort for snowboarding. After an avalanche, they are stranded in an abandoned ski lodge and people go missing. Sounds like a page out of an Agatha Christie novel with a modern twist. Cassy Joel, Izzy and Talbot team up to ferret out who could be a stalker killing their friends. The danger ramps up in this snowy, suspenseful novella that packs a punch.

Snowbound Secrets by Lynette Eason:
A real nail biter when longtime friends Maya and Gideon meet again at a ski resort that is cut off after an avalanche. Someone wants to harm Maya and Gideon is there to protect her. Why someone is after her is tied to her past. With bits of scary, dangerous times in a snowy, unforgiving climate and several possible culprits, Gideon and Maya pray their way through the peril.

Two excellent stories about two couples affected by the same avalanche in Colorado. Different but both were exciting, highlighting the characters faith through challenging circumstances.

AMBUSH OF THE HEART By Mary Connealy, Reviewed by Winnie and Paula #NewRelease

(Rocky Mountain Marshals Book #1):
A Historical Frontier Western Romance with US Marshals set in the Rocky Mountains

WINNIE'S REVIEW:
“’You’d think of the three of them, the woman would be the easiest to corral,’ Owen muttered. He didn’t say it for anyone’s ears but Morgan’s because they had two feisty women with them, and he’d prefer it if they weren’t mad at him. Especially the one he’d kissed less than an hour ago.”

Filled with Mary Connealy’s signature wit and humor, her well-drawn and engaging characters, and her action-packed plots, Ambush of the Heart is a riveting and fun read. Set in the Colorado Rockies in 1872, this tale is full of suspense as Owen Riley and his fellow Marshals escort a prisoner, along with Delaney and Boone Bridger, to Fort Russell. When they are ambushed, they are faced with a struggle for survival.

One of my favorite things about Connealy’s stories is her strong, competent, smart female characters. There were several of them in this tale, and I enjoyed their spunk and sass. Delaney Bridger is a perfect heroine for this story, and I liked seeing her and Owen as they got to know each other. I always enjoy the predicaments that this author throws her characters into and then somehow manages to get them out again.

There is a thread of the story that continues on to the next book, so be aware that you’ll want to read the whole series.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

PAULA'S REVIEW:
Drama and daring among a stunning surroundings.

“It was a beautiful night. The stars were glowing all around the sky like they had been blasted up there with a shotgun loaded with diamonds."

Delaney and Boone Bridger are accompanied by five U.S. Marshals to join their father Colonel Lionel Bridger at Ft. Russell, Wyoming. The Marshals are escorting a prisoner to Cheyenne for a trial. They are ambushed by the family of the outlaw. Trouble aplenty for the group as they escape in the rugged mountains.

A lot of danger from the outlaws not to mention the terrain with a real cliff hanger as Delaney and Owen pursue the outlaw Clive who has slipped their fingers. At the same time the pair has their faith tested in the unforgiving landscape.

With a full cast of characters and a distinctive plot, there is much fodder for additional books in the series as well as several romantic possibilities with seemingly opposites attract scenarios. You can count on Ms Connealy to provide a strong faith element, a clear gospel message and a lot of fun along the way. The Wild West is always a great treat to read from this outstanding author.

BackCover Blurb:

After the attack leaves her brother Boone seriously injured, Delaney helps Owen, nursing Boone and a wounded Marshal back to health while danger looms ever closer. Despite the threat at their heels, romance sparks between Owen and Delaney as they fight for survival on their perilous trek to the fort. Can they overcome the obstacles and find a future together?

Mary Connealy presents a riveting historical Frontier series starter of adventure, love, and high jinks in the rugged wilderness of 1870s Colorado. This Western romance features a determined Marshal, a courageous woman, forced proximity romance, and a risky journey of survival.

RUN WHILE YOU CAN by Christy Barritt, Reviewed by Rebecca Maney

 TRUE CRIME JUNKIES SERIES #11

REBECCA'S REVIEW:
"Even when you can't see me. Even when you think you're safe. I live in the spaces between your heartbeats, in the shadows you're afraid to check."

Young women; stalked, warned, then disappearing without a trace. For what reason? That's the million dollar question that members of the Arctic Circle Murder Club are trying to answer, because as they take their popular podcast on the road for a publicity tour along the West Coast, the dots are connecting in rapid fire succession. Someone is mapping out their destinations.

With limited resources, an ever-changing landscape, and no viable suspects Andi Slade and Duke McAllister pull on every thread of information at their disposal to no avail. Law enforcement is hesitant to take them seriously and their constant travel schedule keeps them at a discouraging disadvantage, unless they can devise a strategy to turn the hunter into the hunted.

There's not one thing that I would change about this book! Every page transports readers faster and faster down a spiraling incline, destined to hit rock bottom unless someone can apply the brakes! Plus, the ending is a five star bonus!

Some fans want an autograph. Some want your life.

The Arctic Circle Murder Club’s true crime podcast is riding high—sold-out tour dates, national attention, devoted fans. But when a desperate woman begs host Andi Slade to help find her missing sister, she can’t turn away.

The case spirals quickly. Days before she vanished, the woman reported a break-in—nothing stolen, no signs of struggle, only a chilling warning that he’d be back. Now she’s gone, and police have dismissed it as a voluntary disappearance.
Andi and her team soon uncover something far worse. This isn’t the first woman to vanish this way. And every city where it’s happened? The podcast had just come through.

Someone is threading himself through their tour, selecting victims and playing a deadly game with rules only he understands. A game where he gives his targets a head start—run while you can—before hunting them down.

As time runs out and the trail grows colder, the team must find the missing woman before she becomes another statistic. Because one question won’t let Andi go: Why does the killer want them watching?

And what happens when the hunters become the hunted?

TEXAS RECLAIMED by Sherry Shindelar, Reviewed by Paula Shreckhise #ReleaseDay

Lone Star Redemption Book 3

PAULA'S REVIEW:
This is the first time I have read a book by this author and it was a winner. Beautiful descriptions of the setting, a romance that was cautious but showed Cora and Ben relying on God constantly for guidance, and a struggle with an addiction to laudanum that caught many in its snare.

The research was extensive and portrayed the characters realistically. Cora and Ben were complex people who faced a variety of obstacles; however, their faith sustained them and gave them courage.

Ms. Shindelar has a command of the language, setting and customs of the era, which made this a very enjoyable read.
I need to go back and read the previous books in the series, although this book stands alone easily.

Can love blossom between a woman haunted by her family's past and a man with a war-scarred heart?

Cora Scott is determined to hold onto her family's Texas ranch and provide a stable home for her young half brother, Charlie, despite the mounting challenges of post-Civil War frontier life. But when a scheming creditor threatens to seize their land, she must accept help from Ben McKenzie, a former Yankee soldier sent by her late brother. Though Ben's generosity and strength draw her, the man's private struggle she stumbles upon—too reminiscent of her father's alcoholism—makes her question whether she can trust her heart to him.

Ben McKenzie arrives in Texas intent on fulfilling his promise to his dying friend to protect Cora and Charlie. While using his inheritance to save their ranch, he battles not only the loss of their cattle but also his dependency on laudanum—a medicine that turned into a curse after his imprisonment at Andersonville. As his feelings for Cora deepen, he must choose between his promise to his father to take over their Philadelphia newspaper and his growing dream of a life with Cora in Texas.

When a Comanche warrior begins courting Cora and Ben's responsibilities in Philadelphia threaten to tear them apart, they must decide if their love is strong enough to overcome their fears and forge a future together on the Texas frontier.

EVEN AFTER THIS by Deborah Clack, Reviewed by Kim and Rebecca #ReleaseDay

Shelter and Sky Series #1 A Contemporary Romance
of a Widow’s Second Chance at Love with a Hollywood Celebrity

KIM'S REVIEW:
From the moment I read The Cowboy’s Marriage Bargain by Deborah Clack, I knew I would read anything she chose to write next. After finishing Even After This, my first thought was simply… wow. I laughed, I cried, and I felt every emotion right alongside the characters—which is such a rare and special talent. I truly have no idea how to write a review worthy of this deeply emotional, romantic, humorous, and character-driven story. I loved every second of it.

I loved Harlan the moment he stepped onto the page. His humor, his warmth, and the unwavering support he showed Meredith completely won me over. And while I adored Harlan on his own, Harlan and Meredith together were pure perfection. Their chemistry leapt off the page. My heart absolutely broke for Meredith and everything she had endured, and I could feel her grief deep in my bones. Her growth felt steady, authentic, and beautifully realistic.

The humor was perfectly timed and helped balance the heavy grief woven throughout the story. The secondary characters added so much richness, especially Harlan’s family. Penelope, in particular, jumped off the page, and I was thrilled to learn she will be the focus of book two.

I loved every single part of this story. Though it carries a strong thread of grief, the humor and heart balance it beautifully. I cannot wait for book two, releasing in October. Well done, Ms. Clack!

REBECCA'S REVIEW:

"Fourteen".

Meredith Harper had been placed on "Famous People Probation" by her family (for reasons we won't go into just now), so when she meets film star and Hollywood icon Harlan Holcombe while vacationing in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she can scarcely put two words together, which seems to endear her even more to the object of this chance encounter. Ironically, they proceed to keep bumping into each other during her stay at the luxurious Broadmoor hotel and resort. One thing leads to another and . . .

Of course, there is more to this story. So much more. Meredith's life for the past four years has been a messy dumpster dive into an ocean of grief; after losing her husband and two children in a tragic accident, she has scarcely been able to put one foot in front of the other, much less unpack the way her heart might feel to love again. Harlan is also at a crossroads in his life, trying to casually distance himself from his onscreen persona in order to use his successful career in a way that serves others in the industry. Meredith is an anomaly.

Depth seeps into every crack and crevice of this story. What is far more remarkable is how funny it is. On the surface, those two descriptions seem at odds with each other, but in reality the presentation allows the reader to not only feel the pain of loss but to fully experience the joy of gain. Even after . . . all of this.
*I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. The opinions above are entirely my own. A clean and wholesome publication of Haven, a division of Baker Publishing.

BackCover Blurb:
When you're ready to live again, love often has a way of finding you.

Four years after tragedy, Meredith Harper is tired of hiding in her corner of Texas and living life like a game of dodgeball. She packs up her grief, awkward social graces, and sizable life insurance in search of a vacation and investment property in Colorado Springs. A botched dinner reservation throws her into the path of a bona fide movie star, and Meredith pushes through her comical celebrity neurosis to discover he is charming but a terrible dancer.

A viral video of a daring rescue makes Harlan Holcombe's celebrity star stronger, with millions of his fans deeming him a real-life Hercules. But a minute of heroism doesn't absolve his past mistakes. As Harlan and Meredith spend more time together, he helps her believe there might be more for her not just in life but in love. And she might be part of the solution to restore the legacy he fears is tarnished. But what happens when the path to redeem his mistakes collides with the path to redeem her loss?

A poignant and humorous contemporary romance of second chances with swoon but no spice, grief and healing, celebrity meets reluctant widow, love after loss, and new beginnings. This clean and wholesome love story will delight fans of Abby Jimenez, Katherine Center, Annabel Monaghan, and B. K. Borison.

MISTS OVER THE CHANNEL ISLANDS by Sarah Sundin, Reviwed by Winnie and Paula #ReleaseDay

World War II Enemies-to-Lovers Historical Romance
Set in the British Channel Islands

WINNIE'S REVIEW:
Sarah Sundin’s historical fiction novels are always a treat to read. Filled with rich historical detail and showcasing Sundin’s obvious deep and careful research, Mists Over the Channel Islands is beautifully written and brings to life what the residents of the Channel Islands had to endure during World War II. The setting on the island of Jersey, where most of the action took place, was richly painted, and I could easily visualize the action of the story. The map included at the front of the book helped immensely to follow where the events took place. It was also interesting to read additional information about the island posted at the end of the story.

The characters are very well-drawn and interesting, and the plot follows the history of actual happenings during the German occupation. I enjoyed learning more about this piece of history, although it was heart-breaking to see what the Jersey residents had to endure.

Dr. Ivy Picot stays on the island during the occupation, where she treats patients and also risks her life to treat injured labor camp escapees. When she encounters Dutch engineer Gerrit van der Zee, she is initially is suspicious of him but ends up working with him in resisting the Germans.

With plenty of action, suspense, intrigue, and a dash of romance, this book kept me turning the pages. The messages of inspiration, hope, and faith added depth to the story.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Revell through Interviews and Reviews. All opinions are my own.

PAULA'S REVIEW:
The beautiful, remote island of Jersey between France and England is the setting for this exciting story of resistance in WWII.

Dr. Ivy Picot stays on Jersey in order to take care of patients while her family members evacuate to England. Ivy, her sister Fern and brother Charlie and aunts and uncles remain in the place they call home.

Full of danger, intrigue and hidden loyalties, this story is one of stepping out in faith in order to further the cause for freedom against the Nazi regime.

Easily read as a standalone, it is connected to two other books by different aspects of WWII and cousins Aleida, Cilla and Gerrit Vander Zee. This is Gerrit’s story and his heroic deed of posing as a volunteer worker for Germany, while secretly helping the Resistance. He is drawn closer to the Picot family, especially Ivy, and tries to valiantly fulfill his commitment to work surreptitiously while protecting her family.

Not only was this a look at an interesting part of history, the romance was well-crafted and the ending brought tears of relief to my eyes.

Another well researched, entertaining story by an accomplished author.

As conditions worsen in Jersey with the arrival of thousands of forced laborers, Ivy's quiet allegiance to the Allies compels her to risk everything by providing medical aid to escaped workers--even as danger closes in.

On his arrival in the Channel Islands, he crosses paths with Ivy, who shows him contempt for the uniform he wears. Will their covert efforts turn the tide--or will they pay the ultimate price for defiance?
