LOVE AND THE SILVER LINING by Tammy L. Gray, Reviewed by Winnie Thomas

Tammy L. Gray is one of my favorite contemporary Christian fiction authors. She is a master at creating realistic, broken, engaging characters and plopping them down in compelling situations. Once there, she commences to evoke all the feelings and emotions from heartbreak to compassion and on to joy with many stops in between. Her stories are so gripping that I’m hooked from the first page and can hardly stand to put them down.

Darcy Malone and Bryson Katsaros are two of my favorite characters, and I quickly started rooting for them. I love heroes who have the grit and determination to make something of themselves despite their broken backgrounds, and Bryson fits that perfectly. The author did a fantastic job of slowly unveiling his true character from the image he portrays publicly. Darcy is an endearing heroine who, despite some severe setbacks in her life, picks herself up and sets out to change her circumstances with the help of her friends.

With lots of action, angst, emotion, and inspiration, along with some happy sighs and romance, this book is a wonderful addition to Gray’s State of Grace series. Themes of forgiving, not judging others, hope, grace, and accepting God’s plans for your life all come in to play in this story and make it one of my favorite reads this year. This book is bound for my keeper shelf alongside the first one in the series, Love and a Little White Lie.

This disaster may be just what she needed.

Darcy Malone's dreams of mission work are dashed on the eve of fulfilling them: The Guatemalan school she was going to teach at has closed, and she's already quit her job and given up her apartment. Stuck in her worst-case scenario, Darcy accepts an unexpected offer to move in with Bryson Katsaros's little sister, despite the years of distrust between her and Bryson, the lead singer in her best friend Cameron's band. But as she meets those close to Bryson, Darcy quickly discovers there is more to him than just his bad-boy persona.

Needing to find a purpose for all her sudden free time, Darcy jumps at the chance to care for and train a group of unruly dogs, with the aim of finding each a home before their bereaved owner returns them to animal control. But it's Darcy herself who will encounter a surprising rescue in the form of love, forgiveness, and learning to let go.
