Rooms By Jim Rubart
Have you built an All-American mansion of a life…but left out a place for God?
Micah Taylor, a West Coast dot com success story, gets along quite fine, thank you, with his corporate partner/girlfriend, his spreads in prestigious magazines, the hot car and clothes and vacations that money can buy. No need for God in this Seattle superstar’s life.
Then a twenty-five-year-old letter arrives from a crazy old geezer of an uncle, one Micah never really knew. One his semi-estranged father seems to hate. The letter states that Micah has inherited an oceanfront home…on the very beach that haunts Micah with both blissful and tragic memories and beckons him to come, come…
Against the perfect girlfriend’s wishes, Micah blasts off for the Washington coast, sure he’s chasing a rogue wave. The promised dream house awaits, as do more enigmatic letters, which can only be read one per week. A newfound friend and beautiful young woman add Christian fellowship that fills a yearning Micah didn’t even know he had.
Everything seems too good to be true…and it is. Supernatural occurrences become the everyday as the dream home expands, room by room. Soon the past, present, and future mingle with such intensity, Micah doubts his sanity and flees to his bubble in Seattle, which offers neither solace nor escape from this new dream/nightmare life. Time after time, God draws him back to the beach with a magnetic pull as intense as the tides.
What is God doing to Micah? Why?
I love reading books that tweak your brain, your heart, and your soul. Rooms succeeded at all three levels. Congratulations to Jim for stepping outside traditional genres to pen a well-written book of one character’s fascinating journey to God. Rooms will provide excellent fodder for discussion groups or just a one-on-one with a soulmate friend. Find a spot on your bookshelf for Rooms!

Sounds like this book is not what they might expect from a Christian novel!
Congratulations to Jim. Whatever will he think up for the next one?

I am sitting here laughing a myself because I so badly want to win a copy of Jim's book that I am entering my name on every blog I can find with his interview. I am deeply impressed by what I have read about Jim Rubart and intrigued with his plot for "Rooms." I have already added his next book title to my list of books to be on the lookout for. Keep on writing, Jim! I think you have a great future as you use your ability for His work.

Hey Gang,
ReplyDeleteJim is the magic man of marketing. For those of you who've never heard him speak I will reveal nothing else. :) Seriously, he's the best. I can't wait to attend more of his classes. I met Jim Rubart in Jim Bell's mentoring class at Mt. Hermon in 2007. You can see a pick of all of us at www.jilliankent.com under the Writing Tips category. Rubart's the last one on the right.
I bought Jim's book and my husband confiscated it so I haven't read it yet but he's loving it. Sounds like a great father's day gift to me.:)
I'm looking forward to getting to know Dina better at Blueridge and I'm sure Jim will offer up great workshops.

Jim, It never did make it onto a computer,w as completely a long-hand equivalent, so has long since disappeared in one of my myriad moves since I wrote it as a sophomore in high school.

I've heard such great things about this book. I confess when I initially heard about it, I wasn't that interested. But sometimes the buzz piques my interest, as it has with this one. Often when that occurs, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Oh, MY! My MOM just sent an e-mail about "Rooms."
ReplyDeleteJust finished Rooms - yesterday and today all I did was read until I finished it - I couldn't put it down. Rooms was very interesting - some real issues "attacked" there - I will have to go back and really think some of it over - but I am very glad I read it and he is a good story teller - if this his first book?
Isn't that GREAT?!!! Guess my mom is a secret Inkie!!!!
Yep, Rooms is drawing readers from age 25++++++++.
LOL
Patti
