THE ESCAPE by Lisa Harris, Reviewed by Rebecca Maney and Paula Shreckhise

PAULA'S REVIEW:
“Everything they did as marshals was strategic in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved. She had to rely on her skills, her teammates, and her faith in God.”

This was one edge-of-your-seat suspense that hit the ground running!

A prisoner transport gone wrong after a small plane crash, has U.S. Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn tracking a prisoner through the wilderness. It was non-stop action as they pursue this crafty criminal through numerous situations.

Ms. Harris has come up with a wonderfully scary bad guy but she has fashioned her protagonists as resourceful and capable. The romantic angle was a slow build which is plausible for the short time frame. But even though one case sees a conclusion, we are promised more to come with Madison and Jonas in the other books in the series. A teaser for the next book is included.

One of the best stories yet from this talented author.
*I won this book from Kav Rees at BestReads. All opinions are my own.*
I give this 5 stars and a solid faith thread.

REBECCA'S REVIEW:
"Their worst-case scenario - one they tried to avoid at all costs - had just become a reality."

U. S. Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn have just made an unfortunate discovery; one of the prisoners they were transporting by plane evidently survived their crash, has managed to escape the wreckage, and is rapidly travelling ahead of them into the dense Salmon-Challis National Forest. Damon Barrick is a dangerous criminal, he has killed before, and he won't hesitate to kill again if anyone thwarts his efforts to evade re-capture.

Madison and Jonas know that time isn't on their side, they are fighting the elements, phone service is sketchy at best, and they have no idea where they are. Pooling their training and determination, they make a formidable team, but when pulses of attraction begin to appear, their partnership becomes riskier on a more personal level; Madison is still grieving her husband's death and Jonas regrets how a former relationship left him devastated and guilt-ridden.

What I loved about this book was the fact that even though the pace was rapid, (literally covering lots of ground and multiple states) and the plot line was fascinating, the author never lost sight of her characters, easing them into the kind of relationship that didn't crowd their pasts or fast forward them into an unrealistic future. She's left that option open until another time, and another book, which every reader will be scrambling to read.

"What happens when no matter what you do, you can't fix things?"
*I purchased this book and was under no obligation to provide a positive review.

BackCover Blurb:
US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn are thrust into a high-profile case when they are called on to transport two prisoners across the country on a private plane. But when the plane experiences engine trouble en route from the Pacific Northwest to Colorado, the pilots crash-land the aircraft deep in the heart of the sprawling Salmon-Challis National Forest.

When Madison and Jonas regain consciousness, they find both pilots and one prisoner dead--and one fugitive on the run. They'll have to negotiate the rugged and remote backcountry through Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado while tracking a murderer who is desperate to disappear--and will do anything to stop them.

This high-octane game of cat-and-mouse from bestselling and award-winning author Lisa Harris will have your heart pumping as you try to catch a fugitive with nothing to lose.
