INTERVIEW with Author Elizabeth Goddard--ALWAYS LOOK TWICE, hosted by Nicole Cook

Author Elizabeth Goddard

Nicole: I am delighted to have author Elizabeth Goddard join us today at Inkwell Inspirations to discuss her latest romantic suspense novel, Always Look Twice, which was chosen as the March book club selection for the Avid Readers of Christian Fiction Facebook Group. Elizabeth Goddard recently led a live Facebook chat in the Avid Readers Group to discuss her book with the members of the group.

Elizabeth, thank you so much for joining us today!

Elizabeth: I’m thrilled to be here. Thank you for inviting me!

Nicole: In Always Look Twice, readers are treated to the beautiful scenery of the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming and wonderfully well-written characters who will find a place in the readers’ hearts. Even when I think I have everything figured out, you always manage to surprise me with your unexpected plot twists! What message or inspiration do you hope that people will get from reading Always Look Twice?

Elizabeth: The funny thing about inspiration and messages in books is that each person will take something different away from the story. That’s because we all have our different perspectives. Of course I hope readers come away with a sigh of satisfaction and that good feeling that comes from a powerful emotional experience. I hope the characters stay with them for a while as well, but mostly I want readers to know deep down that God is always there. He’s our rock and our mountain and our “strong tower” as scripture says. We can hold onto him.

Nicole: I love being a member of the Avid Readers of Christian Fiction Facebook group and participating in so many wonderful discussions within the group. As a reader, I get to share my love of Christian fiction with the other members in the group, and I have discovered so many new-to-me authors who have become must-read authors. From an author’s perspective, what do you like best about participating in the Avid Readers of Christian Fiction Facebook Group, and what has been your favorite part of having Always Look Twice as the book club selection this month?

Elizabeth: I love having such a big group of fiction readers come together and I learn so much from them. Many of the questions readers ask, and the replies, have given me insight into what readers want in books. I truly enjoyed chatting with readers live—that’s such a great way to connect, and I hope I gave readers and potential fans a more personal connection to me.

Nicole: How do you juggle writing for two different publishers (Revell and Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense), and what are some of the differences you encounter in writing for both?

Elizabeth: I love writing for both publishers. I think I mentioned this in my live chat, but I often switch things around. Whatever it takes to get the job done. Usually I write the first draft of one book, then move to the next book, then come back to edit that first book, and back and forth it goes. This year I’m starting a new schedule that I hope works for me, but I plan to write on one book in the morning and a different book in the afternoon, and that should take the pressure off a bit. We’ll see how it goes—but I’ve been doing this for quite a while, so no matter what, the books get written.

As for the differences, I’ve written enough Love Inspired Suspense books that they are easy for me to write—they’re very formulaic, though I hope all my plots are creative and different, I just stick to the guidelines and the required voice for the line. The Revell books are almost twice the length of one LIS and I have the freedom to write my story how I see it—as long as it stays within the genre for which I’m writing of course (romantic suspense). That means I can bring in multiple points-of-view. I spread my wings to write these longer books and just go where the story takes me.

Nicole: Can you share any information about your future releases and/or your current work in progress?

Elizabeth: Don’t Keep Silent is book three in Uncommon Justice and releases in June 2020—so coming up soon! I’m super excited for readers to dive into Liam McKade’s story. I just turned in Present Danger, book 1 in Rocky Mountain Courage that will release next spring, and it’s a whole new series, but fun news—Uncommon Justice characters will show up in the new series!

Here’s the back cover copy for Don’t Keep Silent: Investigative reporter Rae Burke will do anything to find her missing sister-in-law, even if it means facing Liam McKade, a man who almost lost his life saving hers. A former DEA agent, Liam thought he could find peace at his Wyoming ranch, but he just doesn't feel at home anywhere anymore. When the reporter who blew his cover on an important investigation inserts herself back into his life, he's less than thrilled. But Rae's keen investigative skills have led her down the right path--and directly into the dragon's mouth--leaving Liam no choice but to protect her. As the danger increases, the past they both tried to flee catches up to them, along with the feelings they once had for each other.

Bestselling and award-winning author Elizabeth Goddard plunges you into a fast-paced, high-stakes story of honor, forgiveness, and justice.

Nicole: I can’t wait to read Don’t Keep Silent, and I’m really looking forward to your next series as well! Romantic suspense and contemporary romance are my favorite genres to read. Who are some of your favorite Christian fiction romantic suspense authors that you would like to recommend to our readers?

Elizabeth: Well, of course, I read them all—Susan Sleeman, Lisa Harris, Patricia Bradley, Lynn Blackburn, Natalie Walters, Lynette Eason, Rachel Dylan, Nancy Mehl and so many more! Baker Publishing Group (Revell and Bethany House) puts out great romantic suspense and romance, and you cannot go wrong with them.

N: Now for some fun questions…Which do you prefer?

E: Coke or Pepsi? Lime Bubly! Hahahah!

N: Eat Out or Home-Cooked Meal?

E: Eat out of course. I hate doing dishes.

N: Pie or Cake?

E: Pie—pumpkin or chocolate.

N: Beach or Mountains?

E: Oooooh. . super tough. I love rocky beaches and mountains—that’s why I love the Pacific Northwest. J

N: Flying or Driving?

E: I hate flying. Need I say more?

N: Paperback or E-book?

E: Oh gosh. . . I love paperbacks, love them, but I end up using my Kindle Paperwhite because I don’t have to find good lighting to read.

N: Dogs or Cats?

E: Both.

N: Summer or Winter?

E: Winter. . . I can curl up with a good book, a bowl of chili and bread and read.

N: Wake up early or Stay up late?

E: Neither. I hate mornings, but neither do I enjoy staying up late.

Nicole: Elizabeth, thank you again for joining us today! This has been a pleasure to chat with you!

Elizabeth: Once again thank you for having me! The pleasure was all mine!

Blessings,
Beth.
