BREAD OF ANGELS by Tessa Afshar, Reviewed by Kim

I love Tessa Afshar’s storytelling! Her books are so engrossing. When I read them, I don’t want to put them down. This story is no different. ⠀
Bread of Angels is a fictional account of Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth, from Acts 16. Ms. Afshar takes these verses and creates a beautiful, lyrical, and memorable story. I love how she portrays Paul in this story. And, as usual, all of  her secondary characters are wonderful additions to this story.

I love that in this story, although Lydia is a successful businesswoman, she struggles with fear. She has to learn to tackle her fears and rely on God to provide. This really spoke to me as someone who tends to lean towards the fear side of things. The message of salvation was beautifully and clearly told in this story. I also loved that we got to catch up with Elianna from Land of Silence.

*I purchased this book and was under no obligation to review nor provide a positive review.

BackCover Blurb:
Purple. The foundation of an influential trade in a Roman world dominated by men. One woman rises up to take the reins of success in an incredible journey of courage, grit, and friendship. And along the way, she changes the world.

But before she was Lydia, the seller of purple, she was simply a merchant’s daughter who loved three things: her father, her ancestral home, and making dye. Then unbearable betrayal robs her of nearly everything.

With only her father’s secret formulas left, Lydia flees to Philippi and struggles to establish her business on her own. Determination and serendipitous acquaintances—along with her father’s precious dye—help her become one of the city’s preeminent merchants. But fear lingers in every shadow, until Lydia meets the apostle Paul and hears his message of hope, becoming his first European convert. Still, Lydia can’t outrun her secrets forever, and when past and present collide, she must either stand firm and trust in her fledgling faith or succumb to the fear that has ruled her life.
